ST swap

Postby alltracfreak » Tue Jul 01, 2014 6:55 pm

Hey guys I'm back again. Some of you know I couldn't make my mind up on what I would be running in my 91 fwd celica but I came across a deal on 20v ST locally that i couldn't pass up. So my plan now is to do a rebuild on the ST that i picked up and swap it in using the blacktop ecu. Now my questions lol. Is their a difference in the ST and BT igniter and coil? Or could I use either or.

Looking at the price of the ecus I might be better off with a MS

Did it not come with an ECU?
Why run the BT ECU? Is open stacks a must or something?

Cut harness no ecu. I prefer to run map since I can use my existing map and in plan on going turbo.

Turbos have no problem with AFM.

That aside in your situation if you are comfortable taking on the wiring and or programming I would probably go with proper engine management. You might have a bit steeper learning curve but in the end much more capability.

And honestly the whole map sensor thing is just preference. And I'm having someone make my harness for me so it will be a simple PNP process with the BT ecu. Is it possible to have a jumper harness with the MS in case i ever for some odd reason I want to go back? And thank you Morgan for that info BT igniter and coil are on their way.

If you want to swap back to the stock ECU you might consider a
DIYPNP N76 (Nippon Denso Style 76 pin)

Yes it will fit. I believe the 4afe is 212mm so either use a 212 or 200mm flywheel. Make sure the clutch is the matching size.
No prob
