I'm pretty happy!! 116whp and 114wtq in my ae71.
16v bigport unopened and stock internals
tvis delete
custom intake
4-1 header
custom exhaust
walbro 255
sard fpr
miata 220cc injectors
megasquirt 2.2 ecu fuel only
factory dizzy locked timing
msd 6 ignition
Next will be a digital ignition so I can also control ignition timing.. the power started to fall off above 6500 and I bet w more timing it'd see another 10 or 15hp.
Also, what cams would you reccomend for mid and upper range power with stock compression/valves and only springs and retainers? Thanks!

6500-6600 is where the stock engine stops making power.... a mild cam will make a bit more power in the upper rpms range, but a cam will do far better if you also increase compression.

Re: Dynoed my 16v Bigport today with stock internals
If you are looking for a moderate build the Poncams are about the best bang for the buck you will find.

They work okay with stock compression and will definitely open up the upper RPM but the benefit massively from a compression increase.
If you want to go bigger there are some other good options but it all comes down to your goals and your budget.

What advance were you running?
Your AFRs are high in the low RPMs and level out at a rather low level, in my opinion. I shoot for0.9 lambda ( 13.25 AFR ) anything under 0.85 ( 12.5 AFR ) is too rich, and anything over 0.95 ( 14.0 AFR ) is too lean, at full load.
Get that Megasquirt controlling the Ignition!

Or just get rid of the MSD altogether and run the stock ignition with the megasquirt. It works well.

That map isnt the final one, that was one of the first pulls actually, this is just when I took a picture. Also I built the car for drifting so we tuned it conservative up top, but mind you that graph was like pull #2 of 15.
Advance is locked at the factory timing advanced fully on the dizzy, made the best power, starts easy, seems ok? I have no lower cover so I have no timing marks.
I'm just going to get a Digital MSD Box and run the ignition advance and retard that way. MS is easy to mod but i already messed with it enough that I'm tired of looking at it haha.

What dyno were you using? 115whp is very impressive.

Do you have the whole picture? As I look at this, some things are rather odd... for one - the first set of numbers 97hp and 90 #/ft seem about right for a unopened bigport 4AGE... in fact those numbers would be considered quite good for a stock bigport. The 2nd thing that has me feeling there is something not quite right is the torque reading in your second series... 114 #/ft... Blacktops plant that.... my engine plants that.... other well built moderate performance builds plant that.... a stock bigport... is NOT likely to plant that.... additionally... your engine makes peak torque @ 2000-2100 rpm, where I've never seen a peak torque from a 4AGE below 3500... and most quite a bit higher

The first dyno was the original tune and the othwr is the highest hp run we recorded after fattening up the map alottt... as far as i know the engine is stock...
Re: Dynoed my 16v Bigport today with stock internals
It does look like the tq spike at low rpm was false, but the graphs shows that it makes similar numbers throughout the rpms
Re: Dynoed my 16v Bigport today with stock internals
so i'm assuming the silence now is everyone trying to figure out how i made the power? hahaha

Not really. Were you waiting for an answer to a question I missed or something?
It seems optimistic especially with a longitudinal layout drivetrain loss, locked timing but between what you could have gained through good fuel tuning, aggressive static timing and dyno variation it's not far enough out to call BS on.

The power is good but not exceptional, a stock MAP U.K bigport is typically 110whp
Re: Dynoed my 16v Bigport today with stock internals
so I have a good example 16v, exactly what i wanted to hear.
