Code 42 20vbt

Postby v33sonata » Sun Feb 08, 2015 4:29 pm

The car is still not 100%. The mid range rpm's are all messed up and I dont have the power I thought I would. Just today she threw a CEL code 42 for the VSS. another thing is the speedo isnt working anymore after the motor swap. I cant find for the life of me a picture or location of what the VSS looks like. Any suggestions?

The sensor is part of the cluster. You need to hook up the vss wire directly to the cluster if you have an sr5, if you have a gts the wire would be at the original ecu connectors. But since your actual speedo isn't working I would check the speedo cable first.

It would be really helpful if you posted this in your build thread, posted a link to that thread or gave a complete rundown on your total setup.
I am assuming this is your 7A 20v right?
20v ECU?

The AW11 and AE86 both have the speed sensor output in the cluster as mentioned.
If you are using the 20v ECU I am not sure if the signal is the same but hopefully it is.

As for the lack of power, how did you break it in?
How much time on the motor?
Have you done a compression test?
What are your AFRs?
Do you have any sort of knock monitoring?

The speed sensor pulse is the same between AE86/AW11 and 20v

Code 42 shouldn't give this behaviour. Are you sure your timing is all set up properly? Can imagine that with a 7AGE 20V your timing might be messed up.
