Hiding Ignition Leads

Postby Cortina69 » Mon Apr 11, 2016 4:27 am

Gents,

Ive seen on ebay a cover over the Ignition leads between the cam covers (16V). I've got a bigport and was wondering what leads I need to achieve this look?

This is probably a stupid question, but i had to ask. If any one has this setup, would you mind posting a photo so i can see the finished look.

Many Thanks

Look for the high comp red top leads. If you want the right set up get the valve covers from a high comp engine as well. 4 pieces in all. The valve covers, a valley piece that holds the leads in place and a cover. Surely someone here would have a set for sale.

The AE92 uses thin leads, only about 5mm diameter. Standard leads are about 7mm
diameter. So as said above, if you want to do the conversion you need to grab all
the parts... leads, cam covers, plug mounting plate, wire separators and top cover.

Looking at an old AE86 engine I have in the shed, the posts for the wires come
straight out of the top of the distributor cap. On the smallport they come out of the
side of the cap, so the wires will be different lengths. Also, the ends of the wires
where they plug into the cap are different. Smallport wires have a smaller metal
clip inside, and the rubber covercaps are a bit smaller than bigport caps.

So if you want to do the conversion, you may even want to look at using a MR2
dissy (or cap if it fits), as the wires come out the side of the cap on the MR2.

I made a new solid plug valley cover, and routed the wires thru the front between the cam gears. You would also have to fab wire guides. It would probably take 5 or 6 hours to fabricate. If interested send me a PM and I can shot you a couple photos. Dave W

Hey davew7, post a couple of pics here. I'm sure we all would like to see that! Anything new or out of the ordinary is always welcome.

This! I'd also like to see the custom cover. I've considered making a 3D rendering of a smallport valley cover.

I've tried adding two photos, but I get "attachment quota reached" and it's only 220KB?
Any suggestions.

You will have to host them offshore (Imgur, Photobucket etc) and then
link them here using the [IMG] link provided by the hosting site.

Jondee
Thanx for the replay. I thought it may have required re-sizing the photo. DaveW
