There is a difference between RWD and FWD pulleys... not much... about
half a rib on the main pulley closest to the engine. While it is not ideal, there
does not seem to be a problem running either pulley if you are only running
one belt and using the pulley closest to the engine.
AFAIK the crank timing mark/notch on the main pulley should be the same
on RWD and FWD. Cam timing marks, if they exist, will be different. If you
are mixing FWD and RWD components you will have an offset problem.

The RWD water pump is taller than the FWD pump, and they use different
pulleys. The water pump pulley has to match the water pump you are using,
as the pump pulleys have different offset by at least a couple of ribs. So use
a RWD pump pulley with a RWD pump and FWD pump pulley with FWD pump
and they will line up with the crank pulley good enough

PS: The RWD alternator works OK with either combination. Not sure about
FWD alternator setup, as I have never used the FWD alt bracket on my car.
