20v silvertop major richness
I puit a 20v into my car. and finished the swap a couple days ago. ever since, the car is running VERY rich and puts out black smoke. It idles and runs kind of rough when cold, but when its warm it runs great and idles good. I have a new universal sensor in it ( a wrong o2 sensor cannot be making it run this rich can it?). i never changed the fuel injectors when I installed the motor. i have changed the AFM and nothing happened. lastly. there is a TON of suit on the plugs. Let me know if i miessed soemthing.

Re: 20v silvertop major richness
probably the O2, get one from a sw20 mr2 with the 3SGTE. OBX sells them on ebay for about $60 total.
haha cali...i got one of your 86's and you're not getting it back.

Re: 20v silvertop major richness
Yeah, i just bought that tonight, thanks! if it doesnt work, ill be tryng fuel injectors
Re: 20v silvertop major richness
If it won't work try adding special injector cleaner to the fuel tank. My Blacktop was also running a bit rich. First i've cleaned them with an DIY ultrasonic cleaner with demineralised water and some injector cleaner. After that i've added a bottle of injector cleaner to tank. Now my a/f is perfect.

Re: 20v silvertop major richness

I got that o2 sensor in. the connector is way wrong. they are both 4 wire though. i was thinking i could splice the old plug onto it.
Re: 20v silvertop major richness
yup, i had a connector on my harness when i made it from a camry(4 wire). when i bought the sensor and found it not to fit, i just swapped the camry sensor connector to it. just be sure not to mix wires up. familiar with de-pinning connectors?

Re: 20v silvertop major richness
well..... i sorta cheated and used butt splices since my connector was already spliced from a universal o2 sensor i got. by the way. i hooked it up and its running HEAPS better
Re: 20v silvertop major richness
great. grab both ends of a 4 wire O2 connector from the jy, camry or 4runner

Re: 20v silvertop major richness
oh and i forgot to mention, the custom wiring harness i had made still has the old 4 pin connector from my old celica harness
Re: 20v silvertop major richness
Ive been driving the car for a little while. it still smokes and hesitates for the first half mile or so after startup. even when warm. leaky injectors? thoughts?
Re: 20v silvertop major richness
today when i opened up the throttle all the way the motor wouldnt go past 5500 rpm in 2nd gear. if i let go of the gas some it would rev past it to around 6-6.5k. thoughts?
i was looking on google. and some people having bogging pproblems said it was the STA wire. i had phoenix tuning do my harness so they should have it in there should be there right?

Re: 20v silvertop major richness
Ive been researching a bit, I have not adjusted the AFM or the TPS. i got the afm used off this site, maybe the last owner messed with it? sorry if this problem seems newbie-ish im 20 and still learning how to do this stuff on my own.
Re: 20v silvertop major richness
Got it figured out. someone messed with the TPS before i got the motor. was running super rich. i set it back. its running great no hiccups. just not 100% gota spend a few hours fine tuning it.
