This is now moving along pretty fast so before I potentially waste any more of the time of everyone I'm dealing with I need to firm up how many people are in.
Hasselgren is in for 5 which means we need 15 more people to make this happen.
I am ready to send out the later style 014 cover for 3D CAD modeling. This will be coming at alot of expense to me so I need to make sure it's viable. If it works out, I will then start on the early 008 style cover. I want to do one at a time because the reverse engineering scanning is coming in at approx. $1,980 +/- 10% per item scanned.
I also have the CNC mill standing by, waiting to start once the drawings are done.

I need reailstic numbers for this before going any further......

Billy.

i am in for 1 personally, if you can give me a cost idea i can possibly get 3-4 more people who i have asked that are interested to confirm

Correct, the new style for now. Depending on the success of the new style, I may also move ahead with the 1st gen style afterwards.

Cost wise, we're looking at approx. $500 - $600.00 for a one piece billet one if we get 20 or more done...

I am in 100% for an early style one. I know these are coming later. If you get desperate for numbers, I can take another one as well for a spare. Let me know if you need deposits to help out with the setup costs.

Certainly. It will have the intake side boss, the two chassis mounts on the front, two mounts on the rear & 10an breather on the back. Exactly as you see on the one below.

Billy...

I MIGHT be able to supply you with an early one when it comes time.... L has one magnesium one, but it can't be used because it is damaged... but it likely can be used as a basis for scanning

Thanks Dan, that would be great !!

Before sending one out for scanning I'm goig to try a local SF company I have worked with before to do some coordinate plotting. They think they can do everything in house rather than farming out one part or the other.
They're the guys that made my carbon dash plate & oil tank mount. They have a 4 axis CNC mill, I just never knew ( becase I never needed to before now ! )

I wonder if it would be possible to make 3D printed versions for a bit less than aluminum (or magnesium) covers, for those who might want one "just" to display? Considering the original covers will be scanned. I almost bought one of the early model covers when OST was offering up a small pile of them, and rather kick myself for not acting sooner. I want to have a small section on my wall with the various 4A-GE valve covers hanging on it.

Probably. If things go as I plan, when I post up the CAD 3D file you could take it to a 3D printer & have it made.

Things have been progressing slowly mainly because of me. Work has gotten very busy with Pebble Beach fast approaching.
However, I picked these up yesterday & will be dropping them off for scanning & prototyping tomorrow...
Suddenly, a large step has been made ! Should know more in a few days.

Sorry if this is a repost

what is required to fit these on an AE86 4AG 16v bluetop?

What plug wires would you use?

The head needs to be drilled and tapped look carefully @ photo below for 20 holes - most are on the edges of the cam caps, but a few belong in other areas....

Billy... I assume these will be like the originals... so no gasket - use FIPG (black or red?)

Thanks to everyone for your enthusiasm.
For now, only the 2nd generation cover will be produced. If it's a success, a 1st gen will also be done.

To help the second run get up and running, I'll take a late COP cover as well for now. Quick question, do the bolt holes on both early and late types line up?

Eddie.

Hey Everyone, i have quite a large interest in the early style covers here in nz. and have been pricing up getting some made. i have 2 options . CnC machined ones or a cast Aluminium item. the cast option would by far be the cheapest and the price depending numbers of interested people would be very reasonable.
would anyone have any objections regarding a cast alloy one? and or be interested in purchasing one?
