WTB Power Steering Rack

Postby dcal » Fri Oct 25, 2019 12:40 pm

Hi Guys,
It's been awhile since I've been on this forum. I'm looking for somewhere to buy a refurbished power steering rack and It's been really hard to find on-line. I bought the last one from buyautoparts.com and they don't carry them anymore. I figured that someone out there my have a site where I can order from. Please let me know. Any suggestions will definitely help. My car is clean, sitting in my garage and I can't drive it because the rack is leaking so bad! Thanks guys!

Take care!

Just rechecked rockauto, best you can do there us pay up front and schedule a rebuild through Cardone.

I'd count and make a note of the threads showing on the tie rod ends, remove it, and find a local shop to rebuild it. If you can't find an automotive shop try asking around a hydraulic machine shop. For them the seals, rings, and bushings are normal, just usually larger, lol.

Thanks so much Nick94tt. I’ll give that a try. Thanks for responding. I’ve been looking for this part and it’s so hard to find. I found one on EBay and wrote the seller to make sure it fit. Turns out it was the wrong listing. The rack was for an 85 Toyota Celica!! Wish me luck!!

No worries. ^_^

It's not black magic, but a bit of a lost art. The reason I mentioned the hydraulic guys is that theyll usually have the spray welding gear and lathe on hand to fix worn down shafts (or grab a different size of seals...)

At some point somebody will give up and track down a cheap replacement manual rack from a sandrail/hotrod shop and we can all be happy without bump steer.

I got one that is brand new still in the box from O'RALLY AUTO PARTS about 1 year ago. They still might be able to get you one!

https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/c3/rack-pinions/15752

Shows out of stock at my local store but still shows the option to order. I'd find a coupon code and try ordering online. Worst case full price and stop by the local store.

They had to order mine too. Only took about 5 days and I had mine.
Glad I could help.
You can also source used parts from the 1987 and the 1988 Chevy Nova's.

Occured to me. Ask/look for parts for a 2dr coupe. In a lot of their databases that's the rwd platform. Cant remember what I was after but I got a few things in a row for the fwd corollas ordering for a hatch.

Thanks guys for all your help! I did call and check with O'RALLY AUTO PARTS and they said they were out of stock. I went to advanced auto and they checked and told me the same thing. But I didn't think to order it on-line through them anyway to see if they can find me one. Hey, the worst thing they could do is to give me my money back!! Didn't think to try getting used parts from the 1987 and the 1988 Chevy Nova's and the 2dr coupe's. Thanks for those tips! I'll keep you all posted on my progress. If you have any other ideas just let me know!!
