Rear Sun Shade
July, 8th 2011
My Corolla is my daily driver. That also means driving the kids around town. At the moment I'm running tint free to keep the police less suspicious of my Levin but I had to find a way to keep the sun off the kids while sitting in the back seat. I tried a set of sun shades from BabiesRUs but that was a big fail. I ended up finding a sun shade for a 2006 VW Passat part# 3C0 064 360 that worked. The original price was $90 but now you can pick them up from any VW dealer for $13. The quality is very nice and looks very OEM and is pretty much fully extended. It was easy to install. Just two screws mounted into the rear speaker shelves. If your worried about the holes they are hidden under the rear speaker grills if you ever decide to remove the sun shade. Plus two hooks that slip behind the upper hatch roof molding. It took me five minutes to install. My cargo cover still has freedom of movement and can be removed. But the sun shade will come in contact with the average height adult passenger's head in the back seat due to the angle of the sun shade. So I would only recommend it for short passengers and car seats.

Re: Rear Sun Shade
I did the VW sunshade mod to the AE86, with a little of my own changes to it. put brackets on it to extend it out, so u can put the speaker covers back on
Part number from VW 3c0 064 360 its only 15 bucks lol!!!
Come with all the hardware too
Pull off the speaker covers, this is where I made a bracket out of alum to space it out so u can put the covers back on.
Use some self tapping screws
Put the covers back on
put the oem clip in
and your are done

Re: Rear Sun Shade
I guess this question is for everyone who has purchased one of these, but where did you get it? VW dealer? Online? Junkyard?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Rear Sun Shade
Is there any way someone could measure the width of the sun shade for me? I don't really like the look of tinted cars but my passengers in my FR-S are getting roasted in the heat, I want to see if this would fit my car.
Thanks much

Re: Rear Sun Shade
It's been a while since I checked this DIY and I'm really happy to see so many people using it.
I'll try and post the width of the sun shade when I get the chance to measure it but currently my 86 is in the shop. Hopefully someone on here will beat me to it.

Please post your photos of your install. It's always nice to see different takes on the same install. [emoji41][emoji106]
Re: Rear Sun Shade
Anyone got a good source for these now? Seeing a few posts here saying price went up, and the link a few posts up that says its was 10 and 20 shipping, the price is now 133$ on that site! this was an awesome super cost efficient mod, but at that price not so much.
Re: Rear Sun Shade
I was also thinking about doing this. I searched around online and the best I could find was $120 unfortunately.

I never checked the price online; I just went to my local VW dealer and had them look up the part number. It was $10 for me back in June of 2013.

Re: Rear Sun Shade
It seems the price went back to retail pricing. They must of had a huge overstocked supply and had to move them out for a short while. But there are other vehicles that use similar shades and sizes. But it seems the awesome $10 deal may be gone. [emoji16]
Re: Rear Sun Shade
I found one on Amazon that seems to get okay reviews at least, but its still a lot more expensive than 10$!($69.99 Prime) It would appear that the dimensions would be a good match, I measured the rear hatch section across the top and it seems to be right around the 40 inch neighborhood.

I am hoping something cheaper comes along, I'll give it some time and keep looking some more.

Re: Rear Sun Shade
You would also have to check the shade length to make sure you have a little extra slack for hooking the top in place.
If I new the price was going to go up I would have bought a few extras for future projects.
