86FEST is for AE86 and All Classic Toyota too!!
Re: 86FEST is for AE86 and All Classic Toyota too!!
It's still very much a AE86 forum. Most FRS guys go to FT86Club.com and that's fine. I'm currently in my build plan for my next AE86 too.
Just that with Toyota helping me so much, unlike yesteryears, I really do have the responsibility of keeping the FR-S in the light too now.

Wait, let me get this straight. So you got a free FRS and aftermarket parts with a promise to help market the brands (if so, congrats!), sold your ae86 Levin, then you said "Japan's AE86ers are much more of a purist..." and "...you're never going to be a true enthusiast". I think a kid who currently owns a SR5 ae86 is more purist than you, Moto. I don't think the majority here are jealous or mad at you with the FRS, but rather how you have let this forum deteriorate through out the years.
Instead of being arrogant and childish on your replies, a good leader or a role model would assess the issues by 1) Ask him/her-self: "Why?" and "What could I have done differently?" 2) Listen and listen.
~ Everytime you point your finger at someone, there are three of your fingers pointing back at you.
Good luck.

That just happen? Did you really admit to being the Yota mans chump?
I've never used the term "Sold out" because it is a tacky term, but in this instance I cannot think of a more suitable term to describe what you said

When I went through so much to keep the AE86 a part of the game, and you piss all over it?
There was track, autocross, and other fun stuff where you really didn't need to hate on FRS as much as you could just come out and have fun.
What am I sweating for?? What was sad is only 30 Ae86's showed up, when Japan's AE86/FRS event had 200, despite the sea of 800 "new" 86.
Japan's AE86ers are much more of a purist than any of you that never showed up, they come and stare down at new 86 owners and command attitudes and respect.
why did we not show up? because there's no love for our AE86 chassis, despite all the theatrics that you have tried to put up and entice us.
I am going to cut through all the BS and put this out there: most of the FRS/BRZ drivers out there do not show much love to us (and that's putting it VERY nicely). I get crooked looks just for being at track by FRS drivers (not just one event, ALL events) and that speaks loud and clear for me to steer way clear of most owners out there. Don't get me wrong, I have also met some individuals who give me hope for that community like the guy from robispec, but not enough for me to not have a positive outlook on the crowd. So why would I want to drive out to the BFE known as fontucky, get a bad farmers tan, burn to a crisp, and get bad looks all day?? It makes no sense to me at all.
Also, you mention that the Japanese meets had a better turnout. One thing is for sure, their GT86/BRZ crowd is MUCH friendlier and open to the older chassis... I am willing to bet that they had at least one AE86 on their flyers, no?

Gotta give it to Toyota to hire the perfect guy for the job, I'll give 'em that.
Throughout the months/years I felt as if I was being used.
I felt like I was being hard sold on the FR-S...being bombarded with the FR-S hype while on Club4ag.
Feels like the whole AE86 community here was used just for that purpose. It's one thing seeing us as potential clients rather than seeing us as enthusiasts.

Funny cause EVERY poser 86 I've seen over here on the road are usually being driven by prius types, definitely not car enthusiasts. Stock colors, maybe an aftermarket exhaust, but that is about it. Toyota built a TuRD and they know it. Maybe they can throw a Black Limited sticker on the turd to stoke sales, hahahahahahahaha

And yeah, 86Nights is the way to go if you got the classic.
Thanks for the advice man. My AE86 has clocked 2 trips from NY to AR, a trip to Florida from NY towing a trailer, and about 9 trips from NY to Baltimore, MD. Track tested, road hardened.

Re: 86FEST is for AE86 and All Classic Toyota too!!
I used to build BMW 2002s and I never saw anyone complain about the new 1-series getting all the love at Bimmerfest or any other meets. Why do AE86 owners even care? It's business.. there just isn't the same demand for aftermarket support.
Re: 86FEST is for AE86 and All Classic Toyota too!!
i dont dislike the frs or brz infact i think its a great chassis, but there are so many owners of these cars i have met who know nothing about the heritage of toyota. why i say toyota and not the ae86 is because it has always been their way to somehow try something different from the rest, afforable MR for example, toyota's heritage with yamaha also and every of the motorsports that is the stepping stone for such a car to be made. the ae86 was simply a sports FR corolla that became a cult classis, there are many before it and after it that has been good cars. to me this is just toyota's marketing gimmick, they have all the tooling and knowledge of making a FR sports car yet they developed it with subaru.... not saying subaru is bad, just saying toyota didnt seem to have enough faith in this car to begin with.
so when these owners of these newer scions or subarus see our older toyota cars they kinda laugh at it. this makes me sad.. and then i go home and sit in the corner crying for about 2hrs every time this happens. i've actually collected all my tears and started to dry them im hopes of starting a salt company.
i dont think MOTO sold anyone out, he was one of the guys who shared the most info about modding the 4ag cars before anyone even knew what a 4age was. he and many others who were a part of club4ag have helped many of us understand more about the cars heritage and tuning, i wouldn't go so far as calling him a leader or so, since there really is no such gang as the ae86 gangsters, maybe closer to an influential person. and as i've said there is no denying the frs or brz's chassis, its a good chassis, but i agree with alot of you on how this feels like clubfrs and not club4ag.
well maybe i have no rights to bitch lol being an ae92 owner who doesnt even own a 4ag and tossed it out for a 3sge.

Did the new 1-series come out with a subaru motor? Didn't think so. The FRS isn't a bad lookin car, it's what is inside that I think most people don't agree with. At least that is the case with me.

I believe its because it would be the same as you going to something called "2002-fest" and having the 2002's be the side show with the 1 series taking the spotlight.
I'm not trying to fuel the fire on this one. I respect that people are disappointed in the way things turned out, but no fingers need be pointed. The past is the past, hopefully everything as a whole can move forward and make things better for next year.
Re: 86FEST is for AE86 and All Classic Toyota too!!
I wish everyone wouldn't get to butthurt and closed off about the FRS and AE86 stuff, it feels very childish
I appreciate seeing people that are operatin in the spirit of enthusiasm for cars and driving that they enjoy.
I also have a LOT of appreciation to Toyota and Subaru for creating a car that is aimed toward what all of us really want; FUN! Unfortunately online people want to spend a lot of time criticizing rather than celebrating, it's a shame and a big reason why innovation can be stopped early. Find the good parts of these things and focus on that-- you'll enjoy everything a lot more that way

Last time I checked, the name of this site is Club4AG. Most of us come here to share knowledge, sell stuff, shoot the sh!t, or meet other people who love 4AG powered vehicles. You don't go to a Subaru site to talk about AE86's do you? You appreciate seeing people that are operating in the spirit of enthusiasm for cars and driving that they enjoy? That is all fine and dandy, there are sites and forums for the cars they like too. Some of us like the classic 86, hence why we come here. To have the FRS pushed on you is pretty damned annoying.

it's called 86FEST. It was never sold as AE86FEST or even ToyotaFEST.
As for Club4ag.com ..I don't see any FRS parts in the AE86 classifieds section so I don't care. Well.. that, and I'm not a crybaby.

Hey bro... I think you kinda mis understood the whole scheme of things... The 86fest 1 was geared towards AE86 last year, well that is what we all thought. Everyone showed support. There were more AE86 then the FRS/BRZ. This year it was catered to the FRS. Now everyone got confused, most of us including me had thought it wanted to showcase the AE86 chassis and would support it. It turned out it was really mostly for the FRS guys. So everyone including myself got confused. Since it was getting pushed hard here on the forums everyone was thinking " well if its on club 4ag and has 86, it must be for the real86 chassis." In truth, it should have been called GT86-fest or FRS-Fest so the confusion wouldnt have happened. In any case, the gripe with the FRS is that it shouldnt be on these forums since its club4ag. Its like posting up my corolla stuff on honda-tech, just doesnt make sense.
Just super tired of looking for parts and typing in Hachi-Roku or club4ag on google and FRS parts start flying in my face. Besides, the front page of club4ag used to be JCCS, TORC, New Corolla parts and what not. Now its an FRS =)
Re: 86FEST is for AE86 and All Classic Toyota too!!
Umm.. some of the flyers for last year's 86fest only had the FRS on them. I think some guys got it wrong in assuming it was geared for the AE86 only. I think I've seen every flyer rendered for this year's event and all of them have both cars pictured. as far as better ratio last year, the FRS was only out.. 8 or 9 months at the last 86fest? I'll say it again, there's not as much current aftermarket support for the AE86 as for the FRS so media and aftermarket are going to tip in the direction of the money. But, personally, I feel a meet or "fest's" true support is measured in the attendance ..not shwag-booths, and sadly there weren't as many AE guys as there coulda been this year
Hell, I saw a few nice AEs just hiding in the back. So why not everyone show up, kick the **** out of the subaru in every event, and have a good time? Or we could hang out in the back of a parking lot and smoke cigarettes til our old ladies call us home. lol!
Just curious, how did everyone want the AE86s to be better treated?

Yeah thats what we did.. We mostly hung out at the track section and let them do what they needed to do. We didnt get to talk much since you guys were a bit busy... but I still had a ball with the guys. If there was another FRS-fest, I think I would just make sure to stick with speed ventures....
If I remember correctly, there were like 100+ corollas last year compared to 31 this year. All of the corolla oldies knew what was happening and didnt want to get involved. As for the current aftermarket support your are right there is none. Club4ag used to be a platform for those aftermarket guys who supported the AE86 chassis. The front page would be all about things new for the AE86. Now its all about things new for the FRS. Thats where the gripe comes in. It's just a little disappointing. If you have ever been to JCCS, you can see the Corolla support there.......
As for treating the AE86 any better, thats really not the point. I think to be frank, there needs to be a line drawn. For me, club4ag should stay club4ag and be about the 4AG. It shouldnt have an FRS talk or GT86 or BRZ or anything like that. But again, I dont own the forums or the domain so all we can do is reason with the owner.
