What would you pick?

Postby Mjb203 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 11:31 pm

As swap kits are coming around what would you pick for a street/weekend warrior te72 liftback

The plan is super fast throttle response and a transmission geared right to stay in the powerband. Since they nearly all require the same ammount of work except one (4age with its ability to fit without modification) what would be your ideal choice with plans on upgrading in the future and what rear would you use.

4agte/- built and tuned with a for a power range of around 240-300

Beams 3sge-tuned/ with vvti - blacktop or custom throttle bodys or intake mani -6 speed trans

F20c- tuned

3sgte tuned- simple bolt ons-w57 trans

Which would you pick? Considering reliability, performance, throttle response, looks, and drivability. And bang for your buck value. What would you guys do?

Also drifting is not in mind. This would be a road racing, touge type setup

The sky is pretty much the limit with the F20. The F20 will be way easier to get parts for as well.

That being said, if you are going to sell it down the line ... the BEAMS will probably bring more money, and appeal to a larger number of people since it is still "all in the family".

For the rear end. If you are looking to stay under 300 hp you can use a Weir modified Supra or Corolla GTS. If you are looking for more than ~350 then you will want to start thinking about a Ford 8" ... that takes a lot more fabrication though.

3rd gen 3sgte, it can be fun on the street and has the most range of combanations for power goals.

With your power goals I see no reason to stray from the 4A.
Good pistons, engine management and a turbo will get you to 240 no problem with plenty of room to grow. A set of cams and some port work would help a ton getting you closer to 300.
I'm partial to the 4A though. Only motor I'd consider leaving it for would be a turbo 1GR. I think that would be pretty nutz in a 86 haha.

the real question is only how much money you want to spend lol, that is all that dictates which swap u do.

If superfast engine response is one of your goals, then staying naturally aspirated would be key. Go with light pistons, con rods, crankshaft, and flywheel.
