Pretty sure it will be a manual antenna... should just telescope
up and down when you push or pull on it. But if they have been
out in the weather for a while without being moved, they can get
stuck pretty good. Run some WD40 or similar corrosion penetrating
fluid over the joints, and let it do its stuff for a day or two. Then
work on getting the sections to move... can take a while.

From the factory (North American cars) it it fixed. It does not/cannot move.

Interesting :) On my car (which is a Euro spec Levin) the aerial is mounted
more on top of the guard, and angled back at about the same angle as the
front screen.

Some interesting stuff here... http://forums.club4ag.com/zerothread?id=97310

Am I correct in thinking that the OEM USDM aerial was permanently down ?
Kind of an odd thing to do ? Maybe the aerial in the rear screen glass had not
been invented in the early 80's ?

Stock usdm looks terrible. Here's the best pic I could find (tip of antenna goes all the way to the top of the blue hat for reference):

The straight up aerial was popular in the 70's ;) This is how the factory
aerial on my car looks...

It extends a bit further than shown in the pic, and the cool part is that you
can put your arm out the window (RHD) while driving and put it up or down.

North America and the Middle East had fixed antennas mounted vertically on the RH fender, other LHD European cars had fixed antennas mounted vertically on the LH fender while RHD countries had non-fixed antennas mounted on an angle (as shown) on the RH fender. None had power antennas.

GT Apex jdm cars had the aerial in the rear screen glass, GTV and 2dr GTs had the angled aerial in RH fender and UK/Irish and I think LHD Euro cars had vertical collapsible aerials in the LH fender.
