Old Forum Data.

Postby Moto_Club4AG » Thu Jan 08, 2015 2:25 am

Moderators and Admins:

My old backed up data between 1999-2008 is about to be decrypted by my IT guy.

What I was thinking to do is merge that entire data set and posts to this forum so it can be searched and older data be found. Lots of great information is nestled in there.

We don't think we can keep the username intact as it does overlap some names and others by email etc, so all posts will have either appended names or anonymous names but posts be in correct order in respective threads.

I wanted to hear your opinions on the matter.

Thanks as always for your great contributions !!!

It would be awesome if old names were carried over with a small change to make it different.
Would it be possible to do something simple like just adding a character like -yoshimitsuspeed?

I think it's a great idea that would provide a ton of useful info, it would also provide insight to club4ag's history and members.
good thing you backed up!

Adding posts from the old forums is a great idea as it puts the
site in the same position it would have been in if the crash had
not occurred.

However, I would suggest (if it is possible) that you be selective
in what data from the old forums you merge into the new forums.
Technical topics will have the most value, but "Fun Talk" and
"Classifieds" will have lost their relevancy by now.

I have the old site bookmarked, and find that useful for referring
to the tech data and reference material. Some automotive sites
provide a link from their current site to data archived as a result
of a site upgrade. That would be another possibility if the old
site remains online.

Cheers... jondee86

If I have not logged into this site for some time - IE... a few years, would that be the reason why my old tag is invalid?

Old usernames were imported when we got back with the new forum in 2012. Emails were sent to reset passwords back then

that's pretty cool - thanks for resurrecting it! Do you plan on keeping the old forum and data up so google doesn't get sad 'til the new stuff is indexed?

That's be great! There's loads of usefull information on the old board!

Would be nice if there's a way to keep the old usernames, but imo that's in no way as important as having the old data available.

Thanks!
