Let them register it as a SR5, so it will be cheaper...

what they said. they aren't going to look into your engine bay every time a cop sees the car and if you are worried about passing inspection just make friends with a guy at an inspection station, some of them won't notice the difference anyway since it's pre-95

According to the EPA (not state government, FEDERAL GOVERNMENT) as long as your vehicle is older than 1990, you can swap whatever engine in whatever car you want. That being said, 1990+ EPA regulations state that as long as the engine was offered in that vehicle (doesn't matter trim, just make and model) of the same year as your vehicle or newer, you can install that engine as long as all emission control devices are in place.

You can swap carburetor to EFI, but not EFI to carb.

D'oh! Glad my state (Tennessee) offers Antique Auto tags for anything over 25 years old. I'll try to pass the emissions test anyways, but if she's too stinky I can fall back on that.

You wont any have problem with dmv and also with smog as long as your sr5 is not an 84.

I'm an emissions tech here in Utah. Not a glorious job, but it pays alright.

If you don't have all of the emissions devices in place, you will get marked for "tampered", but as long as it passes the sniffer test you should be fine.
