Nice, there are alot of roads along the delaware on the Pa side, but that is kind of a haul from Bergen, you ever been up to pepacton or cannonsville reservoirs(NY) yet?

some progress on the passengers side door. media blasted the hinges and almost finished with the filler. already primed it once and filled in a few missed spots. layed some more filler down, time to finish it.

a friend and i put the hatch on the other day after i media blasted and primed the hinges/bolts, one less thing leaning against the wall.
Image

finally got the chance to do a little more work. started on the drivers door, loving the Paint Remover i have been using. heres a little clip of it in action...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_qIr1zy ... e=youtu.be

done with paint remover on outer skin...
Image
Image
then sanded it down...
Image
self etching primer...
Image

now that the outer skin is primered, im going to focus on the inner stuff, get all the paint off, fix any seam sealer needed, then prime it. after that ill flip it over again and fix the dings and dents on the outer skin. hinges/bolts to be blasted soon.

Nice, man. This this is going to be Pebble Beach car show worthy when you are done with it.

What brand of paint stripper are you using? It seems REALLY aggressive!

Klean-Strip Aircraft Paint Remover. Available at your local Pep-Boys or other chain auto parts store. Its nasty, burns skin and the smell is nauseating.

not doing the daily update thing, heres the recent progress. this feels epic...

finished the inside of the drivers door, flipped it, after 1st layer of filler...
Image
2nd layer...and final
Image
and on the car!
Image
hood is next, getting the big ticket items out of the way. what a difference with this hood compared to the doors, no little nooks and crannies to get into. pour the stripper on, sperad evenly...
Image
...and peel away.
Image
sanded the stubborn paint left on the top(underside will be done at a later date. dont really care if its same color as outer, like it to stay black like it is now so top only)
Image
then i primed to top of the hood, and slapped it on the car. just need to use some seam sealer to atached the skin to the frame so its sturdier, and fill some holes.
plan is to media blast the fenders soon...

more updates...
with the cold weather closing in, i need to think ahead, no painting or laying filler unless i get lucky with some warm weather. filler wise, im almost done, but theres little things ill have to work on in the winter if i prepare now.

prep-paint the cowl the dash attaches to. 6+ years later and its finally, finally not blue anymore. satin black before the new windshield goes in. now when its cold, i can work on putting the dash vents and other stuff back in so progress isnt stagnant.
Image
then theres the hood. no finished pics, but this is the last layer of filler it needed, but as of now, its done and primed just need to bolt it to car.
Image
on to the good stuff, got one fender completly media blasted and primed. looks like there about 2 hours worth of work til its done and ready. other fender, drivers side, has a small hole from the rust that i uncovered. will weld in a patch panel after i complete the blasting on it, and shave the antenna hole. it should be blasted today, with an estimated 3-4 hours of work after to complete it. went over the car yesterday marking a few spots i missed, not too many, already fixed 3. this things really coming together, the end is in sight for the first time in almost 2 years. thought maybe 6+ months, was hoping to complete it before my daughter was born...and now shes 16 months old. oh well, priorities, and this car is not one of them.

fenders are blasted and primed, need a lil work still
Image
Image

and i got these lightly used BC Racing coilovers yesterday for free.99, only problem...theyre for an '07+ mini cooper S.
everythings very similar so im pretty sure i can make these work.
Image
Image

so to see what im getting myself into i started to compare the coilovers and the cars. after this, im ready. just need to buy a set of spanner wrenches and i need spindles to use. not cutting up what i have now...just in case.

I'm not sure if I've said this or not already morgan, but you're my hero :)

Going into this bodywork project, would you consider yourself a paint and body guy? If so, it shows; the car looks great. If not, you're amazing.

I'm sure you'll be able to get the Mini Cooper coilovers to work, but have you looked in to selling / trading them for AE86 ones? Just a thought :)

Good luck finishing it up! :D

contemplating selling them, but the slightly lower spring rate is appealing. plus, the mini ones are $1K new, so maybe sell them for $750ish? then need another $500 for the 86 ones with spindles. idk, theres a bunch of options.

as for the body work, no, im not a body work guy. dabbled a lil in it before this project, but nothing to this extent. its been a learning process, and its been a tough one. the hardest part is learning to take it slow and not rush.

thanks, im happy with my work so far too.

so after borrowing a buddy Hector's BC spanner wrenches(thanks for them and the front cartridges!) and grabbing a 6-pack of some delicious PBR...time to clean up and prep the rears. after the family passed out, i headed out to the garage and started pulling them apart. really interested to see why the previous owner didnt like these, fingers crossed theres nothing wrong. the extensions for the rear adjustments...one small allen screw and theyre off, standard adjustment knobs underneath., the top plate that i dont need, removed that and its perfect for the ae86. might need to make a spacer bushing for the lower mounting, ill find that out later.
Image
after about 2 hours, probably less...
Image

Figured out why the PO didnt like these-because he was an idiot. He didnt lower the rears the proper way. instead of lowering the whole shock body, he kept raising the spring, or so he thought. he just took the preload out and tightened the spring about 3/4" past the preload spot. then the dampners were set at about 25 in the rear...yeah, 5 less than as stiff as possible. so not only did he have the settings stiff as hell, he had the spring compressed incorrectly. win for me.

Hector also "spotted" me a set of his front strut housings till i pull mine apart, many many thanks holmes. so now i need to cut them apart, clean up the fronts, and weld them up. thats it, so much for a long winter project, turned out way easier than anticipated.

99% sure my suspension will be for sale in the near future, theres still a 1% chance im keeping it "just in case"

well...that sadly fell apart. the rear coilovers are too wide to fit the 86, the springs mainly. so now ill finish cleaning them up and sell them. anyone need some '07+ mini cooper S coilovers? then with the profits, i shall buy the correct ones for my car.
