Ataki's AE82 FX

I figured I should start a build thread here, instead of just lurking about as usual.
A month and a half or so ago, I picked up my newest toy. A 1988 Corolla FX, with 4AC engine. It had been very poorly maintained, The carb ran on only one barrel, The struts were pretty much non-existant, It had stripes made from tape and spray-paint. The interior was nice, though. Well, apart from the driver seat.

First thing done was to replace the worn-out struts, and the front strut mounts. In order to get it running properly, I did a vacuum delete, and swapped to a weber 32/36 carb. The difference was night and day. Sounds good, better power, and a stable idle. I need to figure out a better air cleaner, I just don't care for open-element filters being trapped under the hood.
Went from this:

Still need to finish up removing the emissions items, and replace a couple of engine mounts. In the mean time, fueled by a extra-caffeinated coffee blend and cold medicine, I decided to strip the factory steelies of the nasty gold and black paint, And repaint.
From this:

To this. Much better, OEM style

Now I just need to find three more center caps.

Wow, nice job on those wheels! :D Is that just spray paint?

Also, I generally prefer FR layout cars, but I do have a soft spot for AE82s :P Any plans for the car?

Keep up the good work! :)

Thanks, It's just Duplicolor wheel paint. I stripped them to bare metal, primed, sprayed them silver, and finished up with matte clear. It really made the car look less trashed out.
My plans for now are to fix things, bringing the car back to spec before starting any mods. I'm toying with the idea of restoring the body to stock, swapping in a 4AG and make a sleeper out of it.

Not many updates, I've been stuck helping my buddy on his X-Runner while in-between paychecks, so just doing a few little things lately.
Got rid of the Toyota linkage on the carb and installed the correct Weber parts. Dis-assembled the throttle cable and pedal, lubed everything
and put them back in. Pedal still feels sort of "Notchy".. May have to get a bearing kit for the carb.
The electrical system seemed weak, So I fabbed up some new ground cables.

Love this wire braid loom..

Lights are a bit brighter, wipers are a bit faster as well. Still needs improvement, though.
Sanded and painted the spoiler. I think I may go with this semi-flat finish on the bumpers and other plastics later on, I'm not sure.
