My SR5 build and intro

Postby Xmas Time! » Wed Apr 23, 2014 8:39 pm

I all new to the boards, and thought I would introduce myself. I live in South Texas and happen to stumble upon an 1985 SR5, which I got for dirt cheap. The car is a little rough, but has straight panels, and no rust. I plan on getting the 4a-c running as my first mission. It will start on ether, but seems to have a fuel problem. i have cleaned the tank, and ordered a new fuel filter and carb. rebuild kit. Hopefully that will do the trick. I am having a hard time picking up some little essential pieces, for instance the in tank fuel strainer, so any good resources would be appreciated. My goals is to getting running registered as an antique, then learn to paint and due minor body. Replace suspension, brakes and other wear and tear items, and get the car streetable and presentable as a daily ride. If I really like the car I plan on doing an engine swap, if i dont selling it. I hope to contribute to the community, and will have lots of questions I am sure. Most my history with Toyotas is with MK3 Supras. I currently have a 03 Z06 as my main sports car, and love the LS style V8s. I love track racing and see fun and economical potential in this light weight RWD platform. Please inform me or post up any must reads for info i need before I get to involved. Here are some pics. from the day I picked it up.

Welcome Xmas Time! :D

Looks like you've got a fun project and a solid plan :)

Sounds like you know what you're doing, but since you mentioned rebuilding the carb here is the video I plan on following when I rebuild one myself:

http://youtu.be/6mJHc3YjwPQ

Probably not exactly the same as the AE86 carb, but it should (hopefully) help :P

Good luck with your project and don't be afraid to ask questions! :D

Wow, rebuilding the carb will be quite the task.

It has been a while since I watched those videos, but idk if it's that big of a deal to rebuild a carb.

A lot of 4AC guys mention rebuilding their carbs pretty soon after getting their cars, so who knows.

For AE86 SR5 / 4AC specific questions / info I recommend creating an account here:

Hope that helps :)
