Re: CloudStrife's AE88
I dunno man. I mean, we won't know until it's broken down.
I don't think I mentioned it, but I have a DC2 GSR. It's really hard to convince myself how great the AE86 is, when it's better handling, better engine, better comfort, and 10x easier to find parts for. Plus, I'm supposed to move to WA here very shortly..
This is the best community I've ever been with though.

Don't give up yet you are very close. I started mine with the same bottom end seizure and been through a lot since then. I'm glad that I didn't give up and get grinding at it. The car with a proper/healthy engine is amazing. Just keep at it!

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
I just really don't want to be kept here because of swapping in a 20v, and I've really no interest in anything besides a 4AGE. It's half the reason I bought the car lol.
If I've already got a donor RWD 4AG, shouldn't it be cake for me to swap in a FWD one?

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
Yeah, very easy to do. Unless you are talking about a fwd 20v. That will require some wiring but still not too bad.

Those things might be true with the GSR ... but its still not as cool as an AE86
Side note, just browse craigslist until you can find an AW11 MR2 or even an AE92! 16v 4ag motors are easy to come by if you look. Just swap over the miscellaneous rwd stuff you have and you're golden.

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
I got a 7 rib block and all the bottom end parts except the crank if you need parts I'll sell em cheap to help another club4ag member...also have a spare complete head if you need (needs a good cleaning)but yours should be fine. Only thing is i'm in the Memphis area...so shipping might be a deal breaker....

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
Lol you guys crack me up.
So let's say we're in fairytale land. Say I buy a 20v. If I'm really unwilling to splice, are the 20v harness plugs pretty much plug and play?

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
actually wait a sec.
So if you buy something like this
https://shop.battlegarage-rs.com/collec ... -harnesses
Essentially what I'm doing is ripping out my stock GTS harness? Sorry if it's noobish lol.

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
from what i understand yes plug and play
but you still have to do alternator relocation kit sq eng etc for the 20v to fit into the 86 without bashing the firewall

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
Yeah I know. I've read Morgan's thread for like 8 times lol. I just always look at it when I'm bored.
But am I ripping out my entire old harness and putting the plug and play one in?

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
Yeah....that harness looks like just the engine harness...someone correct me if I'm wrong but the existing body harness and underdash will work with the 20v ecu...??? Which you'll need.
I think Scalpel meant distributor relocation kit....

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
It's just sitting at my buddy's house. I have no idea what I'm gonna do. My buddy is a pretty gangsta mechanic, and I might trade him a BG familia for tearing down to internals and freeing up that bottom end.
All signs point to me selling/getting rid of it though.

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
The existing underdash and bay harness are kept, the engine harness is the only piece that will get swapped. When I had my 20v, I had a tweaked engine harness with the BGRS plug and play haltech. Install was breezy. I can probably answer most of your 20v questions too!

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
****, that sounds so easy. That is literally plug n' play..
OK SOOOOOOOOOOO, here is my best plan IF I keep her.
This guy has been trying to sell is AE90 20v swapped for like a year:
https://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/d/19 ... 82402.html
He wants 500 firm, which I think is a pretty good deal. Scrap metal is like 200 for a car, so I'd be looking at around 300 for the engine. I would plan on rebuilding the 4age if I even put it in, so the condition it's in now doesn't really matter.
I dunno, whatcha guys think?

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
seems like a deal but assuming the engine is perfect you also have to factor in:
20v pnp harness 625
4age 20v throttle conv 97
sq dist reloc w longer ignition wire 328
rwd 20v coolant 420
engine lift hooks 28
distributor blanking cover
filtration base plates
filtration slide ons
spigot bearing
priced from bg
and then assuming everything goes as planned....
if possible I try and get the 4age running( may be cheaper) unless you have the extra funds

Yeah cloud I agree with this dude. For the money you would spend swapping in a 20V, you could get your car running AND have plenty left over to build the f*ck out of your current motor.
Given that there's no damage to your head, I would try and find another 16V block. Just find yourself a junkyard AW11 MR2 or something and go from there! They come up for sale on craigslist all the time!

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
In my opinion it's idiotic to drop in crate motors used, especially from JY. And if I'm going to do the work on swapping bottom ends, I would rebuild, if I'm rebuilding anyway....

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
Gets costly but that would be the best option to revuild

Oh yeah I agree with you 100%, I'm just saying the options of getting your 16v running would be a lot cheaper than starting fresh with a 20V swap.
But then again, you probably got a job and stuff so you could swing that kind of money. I'm a broke d*ck so I'm always balling on a budget

Re: CloudStrife's AE88
Oh no way dude, I'm unemployed(supposed to move).. So I'm sure you see why I want to give away my bride LOL.
I like how I always try to do things my own way and just do what people say on here.
My buddy really is hounding me to strip down to internals and check em out.. he's a solid guy.
For a budget rebuild, what would you guys say is the absolute minimum?
I usually go OEM Toyo unless something comparable in quality and longevity is tried and true.. A list of the essentials would be great
