Brand new to Club4AG! Quick background; been into the Nissan scene for years now, built several S chassis, Hondas, Mitsus, and a few Subies. I just recently left my Senior Specialist Technician Position at Nissan, currently working as a Technician at Hyundai. This is my first Toyota project, but I must say, I have fallen in love with this car. Everything has been so easy and direct, the engineering of these vehicles is astonishing. When you have a car that's nearly 30 years old, but has technology that most modern cars don't, you know you have quality (i.e. TEMS).
I picked up this 1986 Cressida from the original owner about 8 months ago. The car ran, but was in major need of some work, so I decided to opt out of the original 5m and AT in favor of a 7MGTE paired with a W58. All together I have less than $2500 invested, sourcing some great local deals. I don't even know if there is another one of these cars on the road where I live! I started working on this car 1 month ago after gathering parts and finding the time. Currently the car is running and driving with all gauges and electronics working with the exception of the fuel level sender. If you guys have any suggestions, spare parts, or good information, please share!
Here's a few pictures of the progress so far:

Money tied up for Christmas, so just some small things have been done. Welded up an extra diff for our local drift events, made custom lip, cleaned out heavy rust deposits from fuel tank, cleaned up front bumper, currently working on custom rear bumper.

Nice project!! 5M-GE to 7M-GTE is a great choice for an old school Toyota chassis, especially a Cressida. I've got a spare 7M-GTE cam cover and AEM adjustable cam gears if you're interested. Feel free to send me a PM if you'd like.

I always have had a soft spot for those toyotas. had a baby sitter who owned a wagon. And i still remember her driving me and my brothers around in it. it was blue. she was hot. it always smelled like her perfume. ahhh youth..
"my car is cold and has no cup holders... you drive."

Can't wait to see more updates.
There shouldn't be a day that goes by where you don't learn something new.
