So I mightve come across another problem in my 20v swap. So I went to plug my dash temp sensor wire to the actual sensor but my wire is just a simple male end connector while the sensor itself looks to me like its the cooling fan sensor and this is a bitch to get to... Now if i were to break the white plastic part of the sensor and slide my cluster temp wire onto it, will it work the same way? or do I need to tap into the water lines and add a new sensor? taking it out I think will be almost impossible due to space and I think the actualy temp sensor is alot smaller. I found this picture of each of the water sensors during my search for this information. White is fan sensor, grey is ecu and the last is for the dash gauge, also say it does work.. would I be able to piggy back from that sensor to an electronic fan relay?

Just solder an extension on to your current blade type connector, that will fit inside the different plug. Add some RTV to seal the top of the plug. Dave W

I think that you will find that the cooling fan sensor is a switch that operates at
some fixed temperature. The OEM gauge sensor will be some kind of resistance
that varies with temperature. And if it only has one wire it will be grounding to
the engine. This doesn´t solve your problem but it might save you some time

There are 2 types of sensor on the AE111 BT engines, I guess the earlier cars have the exposed spade type sensor and the later ones have an enclosed type connector.
You could use a female pin from an unused connector(evap vsv etc.) and join it to your temp gauge sensor wire.

FYI, the 1993-1997 4/7afe corollas share the same sensors, which means they share the same plugs...

Jondee's right the 2 sensors arent compatable for what i wanted to do. I jacked up my thumb during my rad fan testing, good thing it was a plastic fan instead of old school metal, but i havent done work to the car since. And thanks about the shared sensors info morgan
