Fair price for a brand new engine and dash harness?

Postby dinkers542 » Thu Jun 25, 2015 12:05 pm

I have been having trouble finishing my GTS swap due to a clipped wiring harness. I got tired of trying to source one so I got in contact with a few companies that can reproduce the connectors for these harnesses as long as I order each connector in quantities of 1k or more. I figure with so many people out there that want these and plenty of blue tops I could just sell kits to people or assemble them and sell them that way. I'm not sure what my connector cost will be yet but I should know in a few weeks once they get my existing harness and take a look at the plugs.

My question is what would be a price that wouldnt leave you feeling like you were robbed?

Well since OEM complete harnesses are going for $200-300 now... I'm guessing a new engine harness would be around $1000? That sounds crazy, but once you price out connectors, wires, heatwrapping, etc...
I have a feeling prices would have to be in the $800-1000 range. I wish I could buy a brand new harness for $500, but the demand just isn't there.

Dash harnesses could be made a bit cheaper because you don't need to use heatwrap, and there are less connectors (I think?).

This is for a 20v not the 16v, but still awesome that someone makes such a high quality harness for a decent price.

I had connectors priced out for all of the harnesses for Kouki and it looks like it wouldnt be so bad. I was thinking I could sell kits with wiring diagrams and the connectors and pins and then also completed harnesses. I could sell a full kit i.e. Dash+extension, engine, and rear for less than $450.

If you could actually pull that off, I would certainly buy a full kit, or at least all new connectors. I'm sure a lot of other people would too because finding uncut complete harnesses now is pretty difficult.

Personally I would just feel better knowing my wires aren't corroded and my connectors won't snap if I pull them apart too many times... :P

Had a couple of samples made and I was not impressed in the slightest. Im going to look for another company to produce this stuff to better quality. Found a couple companies state side that may fit the bill.
