Hey guys,
Just wondering something in regards to the use of a RHD car in the States, specifically in regards to the AE86...
What parts from the LHD or USA Spec AE86 wouldn´t be compatible with the RHD?
The reason I ask is because let's say the car breaks down, the ideal thing would to be fix the car using parts for the local LHD version, else importing things from Japan could take a while and be more expensive as well.
I'm thinking most parts would be fine and compatible, brakes, suspension, engine parts.
The only thing I'm thinking you would have import JDM parts specific for the RHD version would be for example in regards to the steering, some electronics, like turn signal lever, wiper lever etc are inverted in the RHD.
Would appreciate some insight into this guys.
Regards

off the top of my head, the steering rack is the biggest issue
Re: RHD AE86 in the USA?
Aside from the rack (which I bet you could rebuild with a LHD rack rebuild kit), I can't think of a single part that would have to be flipped LHD and RHD. The whole steering column is just picked up and moved: ignition is still on the right, turn signal on the left. Of course, everything relating to the trim is flipped, and the passenger's seat and drivers' seats are flipped, and the wiring harness is much smaller... for the most part, these aren't parts that are going to break on you.
Anyways, import from Japan isn't your only option. UK/ Australian markets got RHD as well. It really shouldn't be hard to find parts if anything breaks. At least not any harder than it is for the rest of us.

jdm motor runs on MAP sensor instead of an MAF so the ecu, distributor and ignitor are all different and not interchangeable with the US spec parts. Intake manifold is different as there is no EGR on j-spec models.

Actually the turn signal is on the opposite side. Its always closest to the window. Every time i would go to visit family in japan i would keep hitting the winshield wipers for the first few days.

^^ That is the hardest thing about driving in Japan!
Then, when I get home, I turn the wipers on too.

I've got a RHD. It isn't too bad to find parts, since there are lots of places willing to export. Plus many mechanical items transfer from the USDM GTS.
