Got my first ae86!
ok guys just a week ago i bought myself a 85 toyota corolla gts! and im already looking for parts to buy for it, i been searching on bride, sparco, etc seats, i was just wondering will any of those seats fit the corolla? i know as long as i get the right sliders i should be fine... but just wondering is there any specific seats that wont fit the corolla? thank you.
Re: Got my first ae86!
Wider than average fixed back bucket seats can be tricky to fit with the base rail setups that are available and sometimes require fabrication to make it work. Any seats wider than roughly 15.5-16" at the base will be tougher to fit low down.
Reclining buckets are a different story though. I haven't tried any aftermarket ones in an ae86.

most bride seats will fit fine in corolla. I had NAMS rails and fit a vios III just fine as well as a Zeta II. However my Tom's carbon SPG replica would not fit my rials. I had to mount them to the floor wider than the stock position.

Re: Got my first ae86!
just wondering im pretty chubby guy, not really big but do XL seats fit in an ae86?
Re: Got my first ae86!
not really unless you make custom rails. Like I said my SPG style bucket (up to 34" waist comfortably) did not fit between my nams rails, I had to mount them wider and weld them to the floor.
this is assuming you're talking about side mount seats, if you are referring to bottom mount, that's a whole different story.

Well...you might have bought the wrong car. There's very little that fits these cars, at all, for anything. Except a Double-DIN stock radio size.
Even when someone says something will fit, make sure they are sure this is for the RWD Corolla, not the FWD Corolla (FX-16) that shipped in the same years. And that it is for your GT-S, not the diesel (!) or the base model Corollas, because even when these cars were new, damned little fit into them and most folks, including the dealers, couldn't figure out what car it was. I used to bring my own printouts for front-end alignments because Hunter had the FWD version programmed into their equipment and the techs couldn't find my car.
"GT-S, oh, you mean Celica?" That's right, that was the 1980's. Everyone knew a GT-S was a Celica, outsold these at least twenty to one, probably fifty to one.

I run a Bride DIGO II and a bride rail made for the AE86. Fits perfectly.

Re: Got my first ae86!
I went through the same thing as LongGrain...
NAMS rails with Recaro pole position didn't work without binding (seat was 17" wide i.e. too wide). I managed to get it all bolted in, but found out later the binding caused a small tear on the floor around one of the welded nuts for the seat base
. I ended up cutting/welding the seat based to properly accomodate the seat and fixed the floor.
The side mount bucket seat base rails that are available only accommodate seats 15-15.5" wide without binding. I'm currently using NAMS rails with the Recaro Profi SPG bucket and everything bolts up fine without modification. It's also at least 2" lower the stock seat in its lowest position. Anyone over a 34" waist is going to have a hard time fitting in seats this size.

Re: Got my first ae86!
Haha I'm 6'3" so every bit helps. Even I can't see over the dash sitting on the floor, I've tried....
Re: Got my first ae86!
Six foot three? Oh, you must have the car with the Gurney Bump in the roof. Been meaning to get one of those myself, because all I need is good posture to hit the roof, and I'm no six three. (Dan Gurney had a bump installed in the roof when he was racing the Ford GTs, it was the only way to fit him in the car.)
