Why do u want to use the 16v waterpump are you using the clutch fan with it? If not u need to use all 16v parts or all 20v parts...u cant mitch and match them...put the 20v pump back on or swap the 16v alternator and crank pulley on
20v power.....powered by Orion's Demise!

Re: ae86 16v water pump to 20v?
i thought the 16v front part of the pump is strong and will not fail?..
i remember reading some thread about 20v pump will fail at high rpm?. cant remember exactly.. but so is it safe to just use all 20v part? will the 20v A/C compress work with the gts a/c component ?
summer will be here soon i would like some a/c..

you will only have to use the 16v pump, if you plan on running the mechanical fan. the 20v pump will self destruct with a fan attached to it.

Re: ae86 16v water pump to 20v?
sorry i didnt clarify further. accessories have to match, all 16v accessories or all 20v accessories. so with that being said, if you wish to use the mechanical fan, you will have to run all 16v accessories.
i built a 16/20, originally i had the 20v oil pump, with 16v accessories, i found out the lower timing gear is slightly thicker than the 16v unit. which caused the lower pulley to be 2mm out of alignment. Doesnt seem like much, but it will shred the edge of the belt when you rip on it. Oh yeah, you will have to shave some ribs down on the 16v water pump to clear the timing belt tensioner.

Re: ae86 16v water pump to 20v?
If you use a 16v AC compressor with ALL 16v accessories then yes, it will work.
I'd use ALL 16v or ALL 20v for simplicity sake.

LOL! A/C.. your jetta is parked over there. j/k.
if you havent found out already, 80's toyota a/c is not the greatest system. Most get rid of it, or take the belt off. or be hella stoked and find a car without ac or power steering, like me. w00t

Re: ae86 16v water pump to 20v?
update for the 16v pump front to 20v back... i found out at least there is two type of 16v water pump.. i have a new 16v pump from dealer which i told them it for a 85 gts.. and i pull a 16v pump off an 80+ MR2 i put the 2 pump side by side i found the mr2 pump length is match with the 20v pump.... the different between the mr2 and 20v pump is that 16v mr2 have more support rib like the 16v gts..so after all i think i can use that mr2 16v front half along with the 20v crank and alti.. all line up right....
the 16v gts corolla front pump which use the mechanical fan have an extra length space... it hard to explain...
