Replacing rear view mirror glass
Replacing rear view mirror glass
Has anyone had success taking apart the rear view mirror without cracking the glass? It seems like there is no way to get it apart without prying out the glass, and even if I had new glass cut I don't think I could get it back in without cracking it either. Is there some trick to doing this?

Maybe try warming the plastic housing? Let it sit in the sun for a bit or use a heat gun to make the plastic a little more flexible. I already cracked my glass : ( the mirror had black spots on it anyway from the back side. Good Luck.

I know this isn't the answer your looking for, but just buy a Broadway mirror and put it over top the old one (mine has black spots too)

Re: Replacing rear view mirror glass
just go to a jy and grab another in better condition. any 80's-90's toyota will fit if the mounting plate/cover is the same. camry is a lil bigger, thats what i got. costs $5 with no aggrevation, struggle, breaking crap...etc
haha cali...i got one of your 86's and you're not getting it back.

Re: Replacing rear view mirror glass
On my rear view mirror, you can see the glue behind the glass. Assuming that the glue is actually the thing that holds the glass in... I would just heat only the glass up with a heat gun. I bet the process is similar to removing any other glass on a car. Then see if it comes out. Otherwise, replace with another one like Morgan said.

I just got another mirror in better condition for now. I don't even know how they got the glass in at the factory because the plastic casing fits so tightly around it.
I think I'll try what grappletech said and just take it to a glass shop to see what they can do with it.
