Possible Transmission problem? Something's wrong with my 86

Postby Ryusei_Date » Sat Apr 27, 2013 2:17 pm

Hey guys, lately my AE86 has been acting kinda strange lately. On one occasion about three weeks ago the engine started surging(like the power in the engine just cut then I got a big push), it did this till I managed to get it home. I let it rest for a couple hours and tried driving it again and it seemed fine. But last night I was driving with some friends and then all of a sudden I downshifted into third and then everything just cut, the speed dropped, the revs dropped slowly, and there was a rather violent shaking in the back. I panicked and downshifted into second, but then it just seemed fine again, then I got it up to third again and it's just running like a champion again. My car buddies assume the transmission slipped based off what I described to them, but frankly I am rather worried about it. I want my AE86 in top condition and I want to fix any potential problems, and this one seems rather dire.

I appreciate any help or suggestions I can get, thanks guys! :D

It'd be hard to post up a worse description of a cars problem/s, but since nothing in a transmission will temporally break and then fix it self, and 'transmission slipped' means nothing, then no, it does not have a transmission problem. Any codes? Good luck.

lol, sorry about that. My knowledge in mechanics is still quite limited and I don't really know how else to describe it. And I guess by a "slip" he meant I messed up on a gear change, maybe so. I feel like it could be something in the drivetrain or something, does that sound right? I doubt they would fix themselves too if something broke or went wrong in it...and what do you mean by codes? I'm unfamiliar sorry XD
