...and keep in mind that I want easy and cheap. Dropping in a complete ca18 with harness seems way easier than trying to figure out some backyard mechanics hack job. I heard the ca18 is a mini RB???

old car smell? I managed to fix that with mine. I took all of the carpet out, and put it in a big storage tub. i filled the tub with water, and some colors safe bleach, and let it sit ofr a few days. I took the carpet out, and power washed the solution out. Restored the colors and took away the bad smell. I left the carpet outside for a few days to get ride of the bleach smell, and I usually leave a window cracked down just so the bleach smell goes fully away.

I also stripped my interior, and clean everything with either a dish soap and water solution in a spray bottle, or a bit of bleach n water in a spray bottle(good for seats). I also shampooed the seats with a hand held carpet shampoer, worked really well. While your at it, clean out the HVAC vents and fans, a lot of dirt gets caught in there. It takes work, but a clean smelling car is nice to have. Since the carpet is up, check for rust and mold, and also clean the metal underneath.

Cool, thanks for the carpet tip. I'll certainly be doing that soon

Doesnt sound bad, never had much experience with a CA to be honest, but a friend of mine has an sr20 coupe which i'm sure is along the same lines. It is one of the easiest "better" motors to swap in. I personally would go for the sr20 because its more common and I feel bits and pieces are easier to find, especially on a 240 forum. But either way, not a bad idea.

PS: About the old car smell, put a febreeze car freshener inside and every time you sit in your corolla with a blindfold you will feel like you're on a tropical island.

Well I don't have the right engine for this car, the sr5 harness is questionable, the transmission is anyone's guess. The ecu is unknown and I don't have a driveshaft to fit the non LSD celica supra diff. Im lazy and have other cars i need to build...At this point, I'm not going to troubleshoot and repair a 25 yr old corolla and will buy a complete engine swap. It looks like the ca18det is my cheapest/easiest drop in solution for what I want. I can get the complete swap for $1000-1200 and I figure I can get it installed and running with mounts and cooling system for around 2k....I'll get this updated as I move forward...If youre with me blindfolded, you can already smell some of Jamaica...and its not fabreeze...

It sucks when your gf is younger than the car you love so much....
