So need a little help. I'm about to start the car on Thursday to make sure it runs before I take it to get tuned. To start the car I am using stock ecu and injectors with the turbo setup to make sure the car runs before I have the Haltec ECU installed. I currently build the car without any AFM sensor unit and realized that come Thursday the car will not likely start without it. So question is what are guys using with there turbo setups as a sensor for an aftermarket ecu? Is there a way to start the car using the stock AFM unit? My guess is if i just put it on before the air filter the ecu will see the amount of air and shut the engine down, is this correct or will it allow me to just start the car no throttle just idle? If someone could please help me would be great, would love to see the car start up after 3 years in the making. If anyone on this site has done this with their setup and is willing to contact me through email or phone, reply and I will get back with you ASAP.
Note: this is an AE86 4AGE (forged rebuilt engine with t3 turbo)

Re: MAF Sensor Help!
Technically it's an AFM.
Why would you put the AFM before the air filter? Technically it would work but how do you attach it to the air filter?
You should mount the AFM between the AFM and the turbo and then everything will work as it should. The car should run and drive fine and depending on the ECU and the motor build should even be able to take some boost.
I am really confused by your post and what the trouble is so maybe more details would help clear things up a little bit.

Re: AFM Sensor Help!
ya sorry about that. At the moment I do not have and AFM sensor on my build. was going to worry about it once I take the car to a tune shop and they were going to install my Haltch sprint 500 ecu and any other little things needed. But before I do that I need to make sure my car will at least start with the stock ecu (Was not a running car before started project just bare body). With that in mind I will not be using the stock AFM sensor after Haltch is installed. I believe guy told me that Haltch has sensors that you can use with their ECU. Right now I believe I will need the AFM sensor connected to just start the car to make sure it runs, Not 100% on that. I'm guessing that without the AFM sensor the car will not even start? I will not be driving it or anything after first start, i will trailer to the shop.
So just to see if car will start:
-Will car start without AFM on stock ecu with boost (will have boost turned all the way down)?
-If No, If I put the AFM between the turbo and Air Filter and plug up will that allow it to start or will the amount of air flow throw an error in the ecu and still not allow the engine to start?
I hope this makes it a little clearer. Thanks

Re: AFM Sensor Help!
The car will not start at all without the AFM. It won't even let the fuel pump run without the AFM. You will need to hook it up and plumb it into the system so it's monitoring the air going to the engine.
I'm still completely unsure why you are worried about it throwing an error. That's where it's supposed to be and how it's supposed to work.

Ty. I just want to make sure that if it sends an error it's not cause i placed it in the wrong side of turbo.

Re: AFM Sensor Help!
Hehe, nope. Putting the AFM after the turbo would be real bad once you started running boost tho.
