Hood is Jammed - Release works

Postby saiGone » Tue Apr 08, 2014 9:42 pm

Hey Club4ag,

My hood is jammed (The latch is frozen shut)

I used to push my hood down 95% and would still be able to open it. Last time i worked on the car, i absent mindedly slammed it shut.

My hood release cable works fine.

Anyone know how i can open the hood now?

thnx.

have someone else lift up on the hood while you pull the hood release. it should open up.

Cheap, good or fast.....pick two.

^^, what he said. Check the latch and stuff out when its open, could be bent. might just need a bit of lube.

My ae92 had this problem. I kept a bungee cord in the car so I could open the hood myself  . Hook one end of the cord to the hood release lever, and the other end somewhere that will keep tension on the cord and the lever fully engaged (the seat belt mount on the b pillar would be a good spot), then try lifting the hood. Don't forget to unhook the bungee cord before closing the hood otherwise it won't latch.

Good idea on the buddy system. I might need to get a new latch once i open it.

Grease would probably be the best lube?

Was the car wrecked at one point?

Came from a rusty donor. Had 2 people pull on the hood. It's greased up and working fine now.
