Gts swap problems
Gts swap problems
so I'm almost finished with the swap, but I'm running into a problem trying to get it started. when i turn the key to start it nothing happens. the battery is charged, i checked the fuses they all were fine, i connected the black plug that looks like o2 sensor, checked i have ground on the starter(could not check positive didn't have another person to turn key, but i think i don't have power or the starter would have made some sounds.) i just replaced the starter so that's good.the cars getting power to the headlight but not the headlight motors, the dash doesn't light up when i turn on the lights. I'm running out of ideas of what it could be . the next thing I'm going to check is the driverside interior fuse box. is there a difference from gts and sr5? i bought a "gts" one but it had all the same pins as the sr5 one, is there a way to tell the difference? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Gts swap problems
Make sure you have at least two good cleaned grounds going from the chassis/batt to the motor/trans.
Make sure you have power at the main positive terminal on the starter.
I know the AW11 better than the 86 but I assume there will be a clutch start switch or park/neutral switch. Make sure it is operating properly.
From there it would be best to get someone to try to start it while you hit the signal wire on the starter with the volt meter.
If you get power the problem is with the starter or grounds. If you don't get power there you will need to chase the circuit back to it's power source.

Ok I do have the grounds,I have power at the starter, last I checked the clutch start switch was looped but i could have pulled out the wire. I should be able to work on it tomorrow I'll keep you updated.
Update: sorry was wrong about power to starter I have ground to starter, the clutch start switch is looped/jumped , I have continuity to the starter but I don't get power when trying to crank.

Re: Gts swap problems
I might have found my problem. I have a plug that's on the drivers side interior fuse box(right side)that's not connected. I traced the wires back to the ignition switch so it has to go somewhere I just don't where.

(Pics alittle weird connector is dismounted and flipped back)
Anyone know what plug into it or where it runs?

Re: Gts swap problems
If you don't have a FSM yet download it here.

Start going through the wiring diagrams and you should find it.

Re: Gts swap problems
Thanks for the link to the wiring diagrams. I found what plugs in there, but I've been busy trying to get the car road worthy. It is the starter relay, other relays might fit but won't work. Thanks again yoshimitsuspeed
