AE86 fuel starvation

Postby The Bloody Panda » Thu Feb 07, 2013 5:48 pm

I have an AE86 with a GTS tank which I believe means that it has baffles, please correct me if I'm wrong. Never the less, I have terrible fuel starvation when cornering if I'm down to 7 gallons or less in the tank. Anybody have any advice on how to improve this. Switching to a fuel cell is not an option since I can't afford it, but cutting and welding could be done.

My GTS does the same. They may have been replaced at one point in time with a non-baffled SR5 tank. I'm planning on running a surge tank later down the road to fix this. The surge tank is like a separate, smaller gas tank that works with the main tank. You use a low flow fuel pump to feed gas into the surge tank, it stays filled with fuel and has a return line back to the main tank. With the surge tank always full, you then use a high pressure fuel pump to feed to the engine. A lot of the older carb guys run them or people that do autocross.
