Ignition System Problem?

Postby Ae71Tj » Thu Sep 04, 2014 7:32 am

4age ae71 stock. Starting last week while i was driving my car for a slight seccond very occasionally would the car slightly bog for a second then go away. This week it slowly got worse until it completely died on me. It seems like it will run fine when it is cold, but as soon as it gets hot it will just shut off and not start until it has cooled down. I had a problem with my alternator wires but fixed that and replaced the alternator as the parts store confirmed that my previous alternator was testing bad.
Just wondering now what would cut out once car gets to a warm temperature, then work again once the car is cooled down? I'm down to thinking its either dizzy, or coil.. Also blew one 15 amp fuse, but looking into finding out exactly what fuse it is since i have no fuse panel cover. AE71 engine fuse box.

If you have an idea of what i should test recommendations are appreciated, thank you.

The "runs fine when cold and dies when hot" kind of intermittent fault
is one of the most difficult to diagnose, as you can't pick it up testing
the car in your garage. I am not a fan of just replacing random parts
system of fault finding, as you can rack up some serious costs before
you hit the part that is causing the problem.

But if you have spares, can borrow some from another car, or can grab
them from the junkyard for not much money, I would look at replacing these...
- Coil
- Igniter
- Circuit opening relay
- EFI relay

That will eliminate some of the most likely problem items.
