Are there rare 1986 corolla Gt-s?

Hi I bought a 1986 toyota corolla GT-S. It came with power windows and power sunroof but no power steering. I know in Japan they made the black limited which 400 of them were made and they had power windows, powersteering, and power sunroof. Is there a rare USDM corolla Gt-S for the year 1986? Also is black an original color for these cars? I saw on my fuel cap door a few red paint showing after paint chips. The engine bay is black. I wonder if the previous owners bought a replacement fuel cap door that was red and painted over it or resprayed the car.

is there usually a color label on the door or how can I find out where the original color is inside the vehicle?

No one as of yet...( to my knowledge) has broken down all the different production features mounted on any, all cars. I will say that you do have a somewhat rare car because you have manual steering... and with electric windows, and sunroof... I'm guessing that your car is indeed unique... **** IF**** it was not swapped sometime before you.........

paint code 202....

My vin plate says 204 and the color chart is black metallic so it is originally black.

they didnt release the black limited in the us so if your car is rhd drive then it is a black limited if it is lhd then you just have black corolla gts.i know they only came with manual racks in the 84 sr5 no other ae86 had a manual rack in it stock only the 84 sr5,and only the later model 87 ae86 came with power windows

So it sounds like your corollas previous owner(s) were enthusiast also.
I'm thinking about converting to a manual rack also

how certain are you about the releases? I know we don't have the Black Limited here in the US. I don't know what trim came with what. Maybe I have a top of the line GT-S but who knows. The interiors looks so naturally old as if the rack and power windows has been in the car since it was sold in the 1986. Is there a website that list all the release date and spec with features?

My vin plate says 204 for metallic black which I think 204 is the same color the 1986 sprinter trueno black limited uses in japan. Only difference that the black limited has that i dont is the power steering and gold interior trim.

as previously stated yes black limited only came out in Japan. I'm wondering what the top of the line GT-S is with all feature options.

It would be exactly that, a top of the line GT-S with all feature options :mrgreen:

IMO, really rare GT-S' would include these two color combinations

Two-tone Light blue/Medium blue

Two-tone Silver/Grey

Kiosk is right. Those seem to be our (US) "rare" colors. (I personally get irked when people paint over those) Kouki black, blue, red.... all pretty standard. Red probably the most prevalent, blue coming in second, and black following in third for those colors.

I have seen transition models displaying different mixtures of both zenki and kouki. I guess those could be considered "rare."

Yeah those are hard to come by. Is there a difference between zenki and kouki bumpers or the car in general other then the gt-s logo

I dont know if you are talking about Americas cars on account of the bumpers..
I know over the years I have forgotten a lot but, visually, as I can remember at the moment: axle spline size/count, interior, wheel arch trim, colors, gts insignia, engine components, lights, eye lids, spoiler, and many others keen club4ag members might be inclined to add that are not obvious to a person already on speaking of an ae86.

Sort of a big question. haha

I love my blue on blue. I'm considering painting the door guards light blue for a more pronounced 2-tone. Can't bring myself to put black JDM bumpers on it 'cause it would ruin the paint scheme (and cost more money than I'm willing to put into beautification). Damn fine looking car, if I do say so myself.

The 1985 toyota corolla GT-S had a model that came equipped with a stock manual rack.Also the full power GT-S version was seen on the 86-87 models.

Oh, that one's not mine, I just have the same blue-tone hatch. My wheels for the last 9 years have been nasty dirty chrome abominations the previous owner put on, but today I finally got myself some Supras... early L type.

EVERY 85-87 GT-S was a rare car.

Toyota was busy selling MR2s for way above list price, and the MR2 production line got a lot of the equipment that would have been used for the GT-S, and stole all the publicity.

By example, in 1985 the GT-S was "on allocation" for the entire US. The NY-NJ-CT district got 12 of them to share, every month. That's 144 cars for a whole year, for three states with major car sales.

In 85 they pretty much all shipped with PS/PB. I'd have to check the window sticker to remember what the PS was bundled with, but I wanted a car without it and was told that simply was not possible.

PS = Power Steering
almost a;lways bundled with
PB = Power Brakes

Both almost always written with a slash: P/S, P/B.
