tires rubbing

Postby meifert » Thu Apr 17, 2014 9:05 pm

I am at stock height with 15x8 0 offset wheels with 205/40/15 tires. I have no idea where it's rubbing because it just started but this is a bit crazy.

I'd like to say its rubbing on the front shocks. When I bought my current AE86 GT-S it came with 15 inch tires and rims. There were wheel spacers on each wheel. After I took them off they rubbed on the shocks that is when I bought 13 inch wheels and tires once again I needed the wheel spacers for only the front tires.

If I only went from stock 185 60 14 to 13 inch 185 55 13 I'd've been ok.

My -2- cents.

Jack it up and have some one turn the steering wheel while you spin the tires. If you lowered the car and didn't match the struts and coils you might be rubbing.

I doubt it's rubbing at the shocks. I'm running the same wheelsize with 195/50/15 tires without spacers and i can fit a finger between the wheel and front strut. Does it rub when you're driving straight or turning the wheel? Still running arch liners?

Main rubbing areas: seam in picture, arches, arch liner, fender/bumper tabs etc...

It only rubs when I am turning or braking or have people in the car. When it rubs on a tuen the car will suddenly want to go straight. Its not rubbing the shocks or struts. I checked clearance when I installed the wheels and tires

Wow Zenki, cool magazine. Which one is it?

That's very good information.

You need to cut all of the inner lip off the fender. If you don't, the tire will grab it under compression and pull the whole mess out and bend up the fender. Under full lock, you're probably also rubbing on the inside of the wheel well. You'll see a nice black scuff mark where it is rubbing.
