sr5 converted gts

Postby what_eis_it » Wed Aug 13, 2014 4:24 pm

I am not sure where to post this sorry if im out of place. I have an opportunity to buy a sr5 fully converted to a gts with a silvertop, is it worth it or should I look for a gts?

What does "fully converted" mean? Engine, drivetrain only? Or complete GT-S interior and exterior as well?

It really depends on what you want, if the conversion is done well and there are no issues with the car it should be fine, but can you live with having a "fake" GT-S? Some people don't care, some do. ;)

Hey Guis... I have a GTSr5. Do I have to sit at a different lunch table?

First thing - know all the differences between sr5/GTS.
Check for discs in the rear/ Cluster goes to 8k/ Front bumper has lip/

Be aware that this car has undergone 2 conversions already.

Sr5-GTs Almost every part on the car has to be removed and messed with to complete this conversion (Do you trust the owner?)
20v swap. What waterline kit used? Do you have a hole in the firewall? If not, what kind of set-up was used for spark.

There is a lot of room for potential errors and shortcuts for all of this. But then again these cars are all 30 years old, most with multiple owners, every corolla is a dice roll.

*edit - price changes everything. Means everything in the phrase "Is it worth it?"

The asking price is $3500 no exhaust but he said he can put one on before I buy it. It has the cluster, disk brakes, and tranny, and of course the 20v silvertop

Nope! Mine's fake too.
Honestly it doesn't matter except to those "collector" people, but they're no fun. :P

If there's no exhaust... is he even done w. the swap? I'm thinking he dropped in the engine, and never bought an exhaust (SR5 is diff)

As of 08/20/2014 I am now proud owner of a 1985 toyota corolla gts. :D. They were great guys and I drove over the most miserable 700 miles of my life back with it. All highway no twisties, no radio, no fun. But I walked out my door and looked at it with a smile this morning, and told myself it was all worth it.

I picked it up Georgia, and drove back home in Pennsylvania. 11hrs of driving. The good thing about it was that it drove home no problem. I was a little worried before I bought it that it would break down on my way home.
