Hi there were probably many threads to this. But itbs or carb? Does it make a difference. I know it's driver preference but would someone rather go to 20v if looking for a setup like such? And more importantly tuning. Many say it's a b***chh but what would be a great route for the 16v? Cause I know with the 20v if you don't want to run aftermarket ecu you can run stock 20v ecu. Or is that not the case all the time.

Carbs vs itbs. -> on 16v vs 20v? Then. If going with itbs or carbs is it better to just go on to the 20v since that's what most go for and since you can run 20v with itbs with stock ecu?

And is it just the persons perference?

Carbs are cooler, ITBs are betterer for ease of operation. There are two ways to look at carbs: one way is you HAVE to do all the tuning, the other way to look it is you GET to do all the tuning. I have carbs on a 16V bigport because that was the easiest, more cost effective, and most fun engine swap option for me.

Yes I've been looking to carbs. Fcr carbs. But how was the tuning? Would you have a log?

FCR carbs (as I recall) are not a bolt on affair. You will have to fabricate an intake manifold. Side draft carbs have the same type of mounting flange and there are several off the shelf options for a manifold that will accept those carbs. I have a TRD shorty manifold with Mikuni 44PHH carbs. They are jetted pretty big, but I have a 1.8L bottom end, and eventually I want to add bigger cams, so the bigger jets may need to be even bigger. There is a thread on the old Club4ag that had a million info's on the subject. I'll try to link it for you since I remember where it is.

Did you tune it yourself sir?

I didn't have to do much with them, they were off another running Corolla. I did have to adjust the idle on it. I had a 2 barrel Weber carb on my 4AC a couple years ago, I did have to keep that dude tuned right.

You want to learn how to tune carbs? Buy a nitro powered RC truck. You'll be tinkering with that thing all day long. Before too long, you'll know the engine is rich or lean just by the smell and sound.

Short answer:
If you're Filipino: Carbs
If you're everyone else: ITB

Long answer:
Its cost VS. nostalgia. Carbs are cheaper. Old dudes love carbs. ITB's are more expensive, more costly to tune (if you can't do it yourself) but function a lot better. Technology has allowed the same general principals of carbs to be applied to fuel injection, allowing infinitely more accurate fuel delivery and metering.

With ITB, you have the major advantage of MAP, intake temp sensors to help compensate for atmospheric pressure changes, weather, and all environments. The car will compensate on its own if tuned properly. Carbs do not do this at all.

A much bigger sense of accomplishment and pride telling everyone I jet and tuned them myself.

I'm want itbs now!! My bluetop is gonna go out soon an I'm planning to get a really reliable redtop then eventually put some itbs with them.
