Anybody ever rebuilt their own brake booster?

Postby Glock30 » Thu Oct 02, 2014 3:36 pm

Just curious... I picked up a re-manufactured one and the housing that I got from Autozone isn't as good cosmetically as the leaky one on the car. Thinking about swapping out the diaphragm inside, but I have never attempted it. Has anyone done this before?

I think you would be better off just refinishing the current canister. You will in all likelihood screw up the finish when you pry open the darts around the circumference of the booster to get to the diapham. If you do go that route put clamps on the booster or put it in a vise while open up the booster. It is spring loaded. Dave W7

Thanks Dave!! Maybe I'll just keep my old one as a core and dissect it for science. I figured that there would be a spring in there, but didn't think that it would be under that much pressure to need a vice.
