Is there anyone road racing their AE86 using either Bilstein or Koni shocks???

I run Koni 8610's up front. They work well for me and they aren't ridiculous money. What type of feedback are you looking for?

Running TRD's - fixed in the front and adjustable in the back. Once had yellow Koni's - remember you could adjust them by detaching the bottom and turn the shock.

Running bilstein mono tube inserts up front (full stroke) and mono tubes rear. There are 2 types for the rear - reg and stiffer and I opted for regular. Since they're full stroke I'm using tanabe springs which offer about an inch to inch and quarter drop.

Overall good combo with firm feel but haven't taken into a road course yet.

I'm currently using Bilstein 40mm inverted dampers fitted into a bespoke front strut, the actual insert is the classic MK2 Escort tarmac spec. 300/70 and with a 190lb spring it works well on smooth and bumpy tarmac.
The commonly available Bilstein insert to fit the Corolla is a B6 and here is what Bilstein say about them:

I have a set of B6's but I much prefer the MK2 inserts.
The Bilstein B8's are as far as I'm aware the B6's with a different internal bump stop.

I guess the adjustability of the Koni is nice if that is your thing and it is also possible to fill them with a different grade of oil to change the damping, they are only adjustable on the rebound side however.

Mine is a tarmac rally car and as such there maybe certain criteria that I need to meet that a race car does'nt and when I did not need to deal with really bumpy roads I used TRD blue 4 way adjustable front inserts and they were brilliant, much better (imo) than the B6 Bilsteins.

Koni single adjustments actually control compression and rebound at the same time. Their double adjustable shocks/struts have separate controls for compression and rebound.

We won our SCCA Solo2 Nationals with Koni rear and TRD front shocks...
