Digonistic Code 6 HELP

Postby Yakumo2897 » Mon Jan 28, 2013 6:45 pm

Hello guys,

I am a fairly new AE86 owner and have a little bit of a problem. I have an 1985 Corolla GTS with a check engine light that flashes 6 times when I jump the cable. This translated to a
Code 6:
System:RPM signal
Diagnosis: No "Ne", "G" signal to ECU within several seconds after engine is cranked.

Now here is the thing the car runs and idles fine pulls to 7.5k rpm and doesn't stall. Also all the gauges work. There is nothing wrong with it. I am running 91 octane, but for the life of me can't figure out why the check engine light is on. I changed the Cap and rotor, but the code persisted. (everything online points to the distributor or rpm sensor on the distributor or the ecu itself. It only goes away if my car is over 4.2k rpm in 5th gear.

Please help me fix me my car :(

Robert.

i changed the cap and rotor this morning and it was a little bit wet. Not like oil was leaking from it but that some had gotten inside. Do I need to replace the dizzy?

Its for sure not the dizzy and its not an old code I reset the ecu and replaced the dizzy yet this code persist. Could it be the alternator? There was another post from 2007 where they had the same issue maybe its the tvis. I couldn't read the post because it was deleted. If anyone can help I could really use it.

if the code says its your ne and g signals, then it is a distributor related issue. Either theres something wrong with your dizzy or some wiring is bad. It sounds like something is just old. If your engine runs fine and revs through the rpm range correctly, then thats what it may be. If you got a friend, I would swap out the dizzy and ecu. See if that changes the problem. Also check all wires that come from the dizzy.... make sure none of them are worn out or loose.

With the engine running and someone sitting inside the car. Jiggle some of the wires around that go to the distributor. See if that turns off the light.
