Firstly I hope my post isn't out of place. I am pretty new to the 86. I love this car, even though the 4ac hardly makes it roll. I bought a 2nd gen GZE that I am trying to put in. I also have a shell of a gts that was crashed. I am going to take all the essentials from it and I've picked up some aftermarket parts from T3 and Nitepartz. The real problem is the SR5 needs paint and has some surface rust. This is my first time restoring a car. I really want to get this right so I am asking for help. Not quite sure what order I should do things in. I have the sr5 mostly stripped. I'm located in ventura county if anyone is down to meet up and give me some pointers or get your hands dirty it would help quite a bit. I'll buy you a beer or something

just not while we're working on the car haha. Unfortunately I don't personally know anyone who owns one or has any knowledge about these. If you would like to contact me send an email to Jeffg253(at)gmail or respond her either way. Any tips will be much appreciated, thanks guys!

Ideally u would want to completely strip the SR5, then build the engine and install everything you need for it to run and make all the necessary fabrication and modifications to the SR5 with the engine in place. You'll do fun stuff like run new fuel lines and intercooler piping. Then strip the SR5 back down to nothing and do all your body work. If you have a million dollar paint job and THEN find out you need to "modify" your floor pan to clear your bigger exhaust, those hammer blows hurt a lot worse lol.

Thanks for that, should help quite a bit. I am trying to do the w5x series trans swap but I don't have the original GZE flywheel. I already have the bell and will soon figure out what size my ring gear is so i know which trans to get. I've looked around and haven't found any aftermarket 225mm or 230mm flywheel that is a single compound. From what I hear the pressed ring gear can grenade which I don't want any part of. I also read the GZE shouldn't have too light of a flywheel. For the time being I'll probably be putting in the T50 (to cut costs at the moment) but I don't know if it will last a day or years. I also don't know if the clutch I have will hold the GZE but I hope so hah. Thanks again!

Sure but not to get a good buzz going. I'm not one to work on my car while I'm not all there. Why you feel like turning a wrench?
