hey guys. got a 16v with weber side draft carbs. just wondering if anyone knows a way to run nitrous with side drafts. i know edlebrock makes a kit for the 350 carb'd gm motors and such but i havent seen anything come up about this.
my curent motor is set up like so...

Stock head with smoothed intake ports, block bored to 82mm cylinders, 82mm wiseco hi comp pistons,20mm wrist pins, new crankshaft, cx racing con rods, webber side draft carbs hks m45 spark plugs, ngk wires to name a few things i just did to it.

so if anyone knows post it up here!!!

You would need to use port injection into the DCOE manifold. Here is a pic
(right click > view image) of a typical NOS kit, and I'm sure there are US
suppliers who can offer the same/similar setups.



You would have to put together your own system for supplying extra fuel.

So I'm assuming it would have to be a dry shot of NITROUS? Also couldn't I just adjust the jets in the carbs for slightly more fuel?

Again, I'm only in here because it is an interesting topic... not because
I know anything about using NOS So I'm looking at a few threads and
seeing what people who actually use the stuff are saying. And these seem
to be the questions that need to be answered...
- How much extra power are you after (what size shot) ??
- How are you going to get the extra fuel into the engine ??
- How are you going to control the timing ??

As I understand it, if you put a 50 shot on a 100 hp engine, you are going
to need 50% more fuel to keep the same AFR (correct me if I am wrong).
With a carb setup I don't think that there is any easy way of getting 50%
more fuel when you press the button. You would most likely have to run a
second pump with a FPR, and squirt fuel directly into the ports, making
sure the jets were sized correctly.

Which makes me think a wet system would be easier to setup and control.
As I understand it, with a wet system, fuel and gas are injected in the
correct proportions to keep your AFR ratio on target.

The rule of thumb for timing appears to be pull 2 deg of timing for a 50
shot. I can't see this being an issue if you just back your timing off a little
from whatever you have now.

There is a lot of reading out there on NOS, just takes time to browse it
and sort the truth from the BS. I would be inclined to decide what you want
to achieve, and then make an enquiry to one of the kit manufacturers.

Yea that's all ferry true. The main reason i ask is pretty much trying to decide if I wana run a small shot of nitrous with my carb setup which seems like a pain in the ass lol or set up a turbo with my carbs for my drift car build. Keep going back to the turbo tho lolol

You need a wet system--one that injects both fuel and nitrous. These are usually mixed at the jet nozzle. You could run direct port with a jet to each manifold runner or...create a standoff nitrous injection system. You don't necessarily need an entirely separate fuel system for nitrous. Most people just tap Into the existing fuel system. Unless your fuel pump is weak is should be able to supply the fuel you need.

@ 6psi, its not going to get much fuel on the wet shot, hence the separate fuel pump to bring it up to more PSI for the correct amount of fuel to NOS.
