Just removed the input shaft bearing in the belief that it was worn, in - out movement of shaft with bellhousing and outer spacer fitted.
Upon inspection the bearing is actually in good condition but what I did'nt realise is that there is an inner spacer behind the bearing on the input shaft. Does anyone know if this spacer is used to adjust the in - out play of the shaft ?

There are 6 different size spacers available from 1.825mm to 2.375mm

Thanks.
Those are the outer spacers that push against the outer ring of the bearing from the bellhousing side.
I'm talking about the spacer that goes between the gear and the bearing on the input shaft, no mention of this spacer in the service manual either.

This one ?
This spacer appears to have some function in the operation of the gearbox,
rather than being just a dumb spacer. If longitudinal movement is to be controlled,
I suspect that it is done elsewhere.

The input shaft bearing spacer is eluded to in this video:

You can see that the bearing is in two parts and it appears to need a certain pre-load to stop any back forth movement. Is this what the spacer is for I wonder ?

That looks to be the 5th gear bearing spacer, it goes between the 5th gear and the end bearing on the main shaft and is located from turning by a ball bearing.
It's a while since I changed a set of bearings in a T50 so haven't had the input bearing off but I still have an old one in a box somewhere.

Re: T50 input shaft
It seems that the bearing was knackered all along. I changed the bearing to a ball bearing type that I had in another gearbox and all is good now.
For future reference there are two types of input shaft bearing, one has roller bearings the other has ball bearings and looking at how the gearbox works and in particular the loading that the input shaft bearing gets when throttle is applied and removed I would say the the ball bearing type stands a better chance of working for longer.
