Anyone have a step by step guide on how to replace the OEM tape deck with a CD player? or does anyone sell the wiring harness for it?

I used a raptor harness adapter. You should need the 2 plug version of the toyota harness as input. Then use the booklet to see what wire is what and solder/crimp away.

If you haven't bought anything yet, there are a few things to consider.

First, what year is your car? Apparently the 87s have a different harness than the 84-86 cars.

Second: What deck are you putting in? If it's a single DIN deck, then you'll also want to pop by the wrecking yard and find a single DIN pocket from another Toyota. Tercel ones work great for that.

Once you get all of that taken care of, it's time to do the actual work.

1: There should be four screws holding on the surround that covers the radio. Take em out, and remove the surround.

2: There are 4 machine screws holding the radio brackets to the car. You'll see that they're philips head on the top. Ignore that. Go grab a 8mm socket and get them out that way. If you're dealing with a tape deck, they've probably been in there so long they'll need more torque than the screw heads can handle and strip out. Disconnect the harnesses and antenna, then remove the radio.

3: CAREFULLY remove the machine screws holding the brackets to the radio. Seriously. Those'll probably be in there pretty tight too. IIRC, they're probably going to be countersunk philips heads. MAKE SURE YOU USE THE RIGHT SIZE SCREWDRIVER, otherwise you'll wreck the screw heads, and you'll need to drill em out and go buy some more.

4: Assemble the harnesses. The harness adapter should have the same wire colours as the harness that comes with the radio. If you're lucky, they'll both have bullet connectors, and you won't even have to solder/crimp them. Once it's together, crimp it together and put it on the car.

5: Start reassembly. Attach the brackets to the side of your radio (and pocket if applicable). Plug in the harnesses and antenna into the back. (Now would be a good time to test if everything works). Bolt the radio down, and put the surround and screws back on.

6: Enjoy your new radio. Give the OEM deck away to someone here.

Newer radio is cool n all but a n actually using CD's theses days is not practicall. Make sure you get a radio that's Bluetooth or USB capability

Corollas are bumpy rides for CD you will just scratch your precious CD's, this is knowledge

if you buy a stereo on crutchfield, they include the wiring adaptor and the pocket thing.

^I've been meaning to get one like that, but with blue tooth. That way one can connect wirelessly with phone, and the sd card isn't needed.

Best to keep the cd's stored away appropriately to preserve the quality of that lossless audio.
