Extended LCA: Tires rubbing

Postby mobilesuit818 » Fri Oct 21, 2016 3:41 pm

Hey Guys,
Something must be off. I have Extended LCAs and the tire rubs (195/50/15 on a 9 inch wheel) on the inside of the fender well and not even on full lock and its stationary.

My alignments caster is around 3 and im not sure if I need to put it more towards 1(towards the front).

Am I doing something wrong?

What offset and rim size?

Im running NCRCAs which is almost like running extended LCA.

15x9 -5 offset
30mm fenders
205/50/15 and i clear pretty good, nothing a little fender well massaging with a hmmer couldnt fix.

0 toe
-3.5 camber
+3.25 caster

something *IS* off.. you've got 195's on a 9-inch wheel!!

Increased caster (higher number) is towards the front.

We need more information on your offset, and other changes to your suspension/geometry to give an answer that means anything.

Wheels are 15x9, 0 offset
OEM Kouki Fenders

Camber isnt the issue.

At 3.5 Caster, my tire is hitting the tire wheel well near the firewall...

I am running Extended LCA with NRCA's....

Two Cases here:

1. If your wheels are touching where your brake lines are at, then you need to extend the LCA or change the offset.
- I dont believe this applies to you.

2. If your wheels are touching where your feet/fuse box are inside the car. Then you have a couple options. Smaller sidewall tire, higher positive caster, or hammer tire well in a bit.

Also, with larger positive caster numbers, you will run into the opposite problem. Your tires will start touching your bumper corners. So you have will have to trim those a bit. Then when you trim those, you wont be able to mount the corners anymore. Hence the ziptie you always see.

I have had to hammer mine in a bit to get 15's to fit. I believe I am running 3.2 caster as well on 195/50/r15.

When I was hard-drivin' my GT-S, I was running non-extended LCA's, NRCA's, and 14x7 -9 with 225/50-14 hoosiers/hankooks, 13x8 +4 with 255/40-13 hoosiers.

with some of the 225's, I ran 2mm spacers to clear the inside strut, and the outer shoulder of the tire would occasionally rub the firewall at full lock, so I massaged it with a BFH.

I was running 2.5° caster.

Doing some math and using this calculator, it looks like your backspacing is 1.3 inches more than my 14x7-9 wheels, although my overall diameter was five mm larger than yours, and I was not stretching. To me, it feels that with your extended LCA's, this is expected behavior.

Does it rub when sitting still, or only when driving? Perhaps you need stiffer springs and/or higher ride height. PROPER stance is a direct result of adjustment for racing. Anything else is just for show, and makes for a really crappy ride on public streets, even if some people think it looks cool.

For sure the tire rubs on the inside on a turn and not even on full lock.

My NRCA has 2 settings, and I initially had it set for max camber (outside holes) on the NRCA and I couldnt even turn the wheel much so i had to take it apart and change the bolt holes to the inside ones.

I am going to try to add more caster(towards the front) and see what happens.

Have you driven the car on the road, or are you just setting it up in your garage ?

Also, are you sure it's rubbing the inside/firewall? You've observed the rub marks? If so where exactly is it making contact?
