Inspection of T50 outside of car

Hey guys,

I recently got a couple T50 transmissions for a good deal and now I am curious if it is possible to tell if they operate correctly outside of the car? So then I dont go through the hassle of installing everything to find out it cant shift correctly. They're from an SR5 so I would hope they were not beat on.

Here is what I was thinking of trying:

1. Spin the input shaft and attempt to shift it through the gears?
2. Take it apart and visually inspect the syncros and gears for roundness.

Is inspecting it outside of the car without cracking it open even possible?

Thanks

Vic

When I wanted to check mine I used a variable speed electric drill with a socket attachment to spin the nut on the end of the counter shaft. Whilst it is turning you select the gears in the normal way using the gear lever.
I guess you can do the same with the input shaft.
