AE86 Bilstein B6(HD) to B8(SP) Part Numbers

Postby Garage7RP » Tue Feb 26, 2013 9:53 am

Hello C4AG,
AE86 Bilstein B6(HD) Front: 34-000984 30mm Monotube Insert; Rear: 24-001540 46mm Monotube(Renin/Firmer Setting)

Above are the common Bilstein part numbers for the AE86. Bilstein B8 has a shorter rod length for short stroke.

I am looking for the B8(SP) version if anyone knows the closest one for the AE86.

Thank you in advance!

Thank you for the suggestion. I was directed to contact the North American retailers and distributors for this question and have emailed them. They are all going through their catalogs. So far, no luck. I need someone with direct experience with our cars. Thanks again.

looking through their products using the search function, There aren't any strut inserts for the B8(SP). even a simple search for b8, brings up no B8 inserts. Only products listed for B8 are strut assemblies(usually have a lower spring perch attached) and shocks.

I have gone through online B8 catalog and if you look at all the 30mm monotubes, most of them are inserts. The 46mm monotubes for the rears have removable perches and as long as they have an eye-pin configuration they will work for the AE86 rear suspension.

I am going through each B8 30mm and 46mm monotube shocks and listing all the applications closest to the AE86 chassis and weight. I will list my findings here. I believe this will be a very valuable information for everyone to have in this forum.

I also know that someone in the AE86 industry have the appropriate tested part numbers on hand like the former PASS Racing coilover which uses short stroke bilstein shocks.

Did you ever ask our "sister" European AE86 forum? www.aeu86.org Since they are in Europe, they may have already figured this out....

Yves from K Sport (ex pass racing) told me he can build a setup. It didn't seem like he wanted to volunteer the info on which parts he uses but its worth a try. He said he knew the right dampers for Koni too.

AJPS (vendor on this site) uses Bilstein shocks on their front coilovers. Their website says various lengths are available. Maybe try contacting them? Definitely post up if you find out more.

The goal of this thread is to provide the information for every enthusiast and DIYers without secrets to help the community. I know some key people and buisness establishments have this information but cannot disclose them because it is their business.

I offered the information because I thought it was worth a try. He might tell you.
