Hi Guys
I am going to change my present shocks and springs to a Tociko Short Stroke coilover conversion and the rear will be TRD 8 way Blues.
What TRD springs of 6 and 8kg do people run on this setup. Do anyone have a part nr for these TRD springs. I want the springs to be all equal lengths.
As another option, what are other springs that people recommend?

Swift springs are good as well. Im using trd 8k in the front and swift 6k in the rear.

I'd love to hear from people using hts short strokes with lower spring rates than 8k front/6k rear. I'm curious how low the spring rates can go before the shocks are out of their effective range.

The HTS curves seem optimized for a heavier car then an AE86, the fact that you have to add a spacer under them really makes me wonder what the original application for them was. Its not the way you would design a shock if you had a blank slate to work from. With 8/6 springs the HTS adjustment falls right within the range you want to have it. The middle 3 shock settings should work ok, with just slightly to much high speed rebound (which feels sporty and easier to control, but lowers grip slightly).
This effect is exaggerated as you move towards lower spring rates. Because of the way the adjustment mechanism works, if you adjust the shock bypass valves way open (soft low speed damping) the pressures never build enough to pop the shim stack and digress the valving. So you end up with a more linear (old scool) valving curve thats either good for comfort and grip OR control of chassis motions, but never both. You could probably find a shock that works better at lower rates, but the HTS is in the right ball park at least. Something that can't be said of many complete coilover kits coming out of Taiwan, the curves on those things just defy any logic. Might as well weld solid bars in place.

thankyou nohachi for your input, appreciated

Re: What springs for Tociko Short Stroke
Oh and don't worry about the brand of spring too much. The new hipster hype is running expensive Swift springs on piece of **** shock absorbers. A perfectly balanced and corner weighted competition car might benefit some from the consistent spring rate. For a street car ordinary brand springs work just fine. Come to think of it, springs are just about the worst place to start spending money. Shocks, geometry and bushings should be MUCH higher on the shopping list.
Just pic a set in the length, rate and diameter you need and go drive. Eibach, Swift, QA1, etc.. all fine.

i have t3 coil over front tokico 4 way hts and mr2 sw20 shock. 8k, and back swift japan 6k spring and tokico 8 way chevy camaro shock.... too stiff to street, best for drifting but i use my car as daily driver... my back is hurt but is fun!!!!!!!!
Re: What springs for Tociko Short Stroke
And if you dropped springrates by 50% it would have been just as fun and just as easy to drift.
Re: What springs for Tociko Short Stroke
^Most people with these cars want a stiff suspension so it's easier to get the car to break traction. On top of that going really low is popular. The higher rates make that easier since the suspension doesn't compress as much when loaded causing rubbing. Usually when people talk about how good their coilovers 'handle' on this site they're doing so from a drifting/sliding perspective. The vast majority of off the shelf aftermarket coilvers are a 8k f/6k r default which caters to the market. It's a bummer...
I care about grip and can't see my self using a 8k f/6k r+ setup unless I had a heavily strengthened chassis AND was running r comps. Luckily I've found that aeu86.org and ae86drivingclub.com.au have more in depth discussion about grip setups with lower rates, which imo, suit the floppy chassis of the corolla better. There used to be an auto x thread on the old club site, but unfortunately that was lost.
