Has anyone taken apart their alternator and put it back together? If so, how hard was it?
I am looking to take mine apart down to the two housings. It would be my first time, and I just wanna know if its hard to do.
Thanks

Re: Taking apart alternator
Just rip it apart, Vic! I noticed my brake and charge lights were on when I got my 7A running the other day, and I remember from old Club4ag that that is an indication of a bad voltage regulator, so I need to pull mine out and mess with it, too. Here are some threads I've found so far...

Also I don't quite remember if my engine is even grounded now that I think about it.....
Edit: Rock Auto has voltage regulators on clearance for $39.99 and new brushes for like 2-3 bucks/pair. Not bad.

Hmm I see. I will have to think about it. The alternator is brand new already. I just wanted to customize it lol. I just didnt wanna risk ruining a new one.
Thanks for your help tho!

Re: Taking apart alternator
Rip it apart and learn. Notice how just about any nippon denso brush pack and voltage regulator will plug in. Makes rebuilding the alternator on the fly easy. Fixed my 4AG alternator with an old Honda Accord alternator I had laying around. You'll be going to junkyards and raiding brush packs off hondas in no time.
