Postby RLZ » Fri Jul 19, 2013 10:36 pm

Hi guys, just got a Seibon CF hood for my ae86, i have a Cusco strut bar(Type OS) on my car, its hitting my oem hood when i close it, Do you guys think the seibon CF hood will be the same as the oem hood? Dont really wanna cut it but ill if no ideas. Please give me some ideas how you did on yours, thanks!

How close is it to clearing? IF its only just hitting, and you dont want to hack up your hoods, you could always add some spacers (ie washers) to the hood bracket to give it a bit of lift/clearance if that little bit is all you need

On the OEM hood I need to knock it like 1/2 inch to clear it but still hitting it, I know adding spacers is a way but I want the cf hood fitting like an OEM hood, maybe I just cut the spot where it hitting tho.

Half an inch is pretty extreme, something sounds less than kosher sadly. May I trouble you for some pictures?

Finished install the hood today, i cutted under the hood to clear the strut bar, and found out it doesnt fit right, driverside sitting higher than the passenger side, end up put 3 washers to made the passenger side as the same height with the sriver side, so sad with the fitment :( Both side's gaps are different. I will take some pics tomorrow, thanks

Hmmm, I was just about to order one of these, but this makes me worry.

Do the Seibons often times have issues with fit? Like OP, I'd like an OEM-style flush fitment.

To the best of my knowledge, no- It sounds like something is up with the strut bar more than anything as it was happening to both hoods and not just the seibon hood. Could be mistaken, of course- But to me thats what it sounds like

The Seibon hoods fit very well. Often time a lot of adjustments are needed, but once the stars line up, its as good as OEM:

I could not deal with spacing such a nice hood (same as mine above) so I would have to ask myself which is more important. A well fitted CF hood, or a strut tower bar. I for one would choose the hood.

sorry dude, thats not good fitment on a far away shot i can already see the hood higher than the 1 headlight. thats okay fitment after some adjusting but nothing fits as well as oem. the seibon for the ae86 both version 1 and version 2 they had fit very poorly. VIS seems to be the better fitment of the carbon hoods for the ae86

For the strut bar I already cut under the hood to clear it, the spacers because the driver side sitting higher than the passenger side, that's why I'm adding spacers to make both side even. And I saw your driver side above the head light just the same with my passenger side, it doesn't line up as the other side :(

The strut bar will hit the stock hood too, it did on both of my cars at least.

My point being that it can fit pretty well. It may not be perfect, and im pretty sure fitting will vary from vehicle to vehicle so there is no way to be completely sure how well things will fit. Something that may not line up just right on one car may fit better on another. Im happy with mine and usually im pretty picky about how things sit on the car.

Pretty much every Seibon trueno hood I've seen has poor fitment around the headlights.

Man, have to say your car looks great. Similar look to I'm going for with my gray panda. Beautiful!

Thanks.

After searching google images for VIS hoods, I find it funny that a lot of places are using the picture above in their description of a VIS hood. I might understand if it was actually a VIS hood, but they are selling a picture of a Seibon Hood and claiming it to be VIS. That aint right.

that's cuz none of those shops/stores have ever actually had a VIS in their hands. they just order from distributors or from VIS and send it to customer w/o ever opening the box.

Well, I wish they were linking to my actual pictures. I'd replace the file with one of gay dudes getting jiggy.
