Suspension Combo Question

Postby todo_school » Tue Sep 03, 2013 11:05 am

Has anyone used KYB's from a '94 MR2 with Megan Springs and the T3 Upper Strut Tube Spacers? I have the combo sitting in my garage right now waiting for install but it seems like the springs would need to be compressed almost 4 inches to be able to get the top hats on. If someone has used this combo how does it ride? I'm leaning more torwards lower strut tube spacers just cause of how much the springs look like they will be compressed.

Thank you in advance.

I'm looking for semi stiff ride which the megans will give me I just wasn't sure if compressing the springs that much would be over doing it. Thanks

That'll be purdy stiff bud. WAIT! I had that set up for a minute.... I had Megan springs and Autozone MR2 shocks, Gabriel's I think. Not horribly stiff, not bouncey either.

Awesome thanks for the input, I've got the MR2 KYB GR2's. So the Megan springs aren't bad compressed that much good to know. I'll have to get it to a shop soon to get the springs on then.

Personally I can't imagine dampers from a completely different car being any kind of dynamic upgrade over standard suspension.
Just 'cause it fits don't mean it's any good

Compressing springs that much is a terrible idea, springs only need a very small amount of preload to stop them slipping of the seat. It won't handle or ride well if you have to preload them 4 inches.

i have this, then swapped out to trd fronts. what you need is not the T3 spacers at the top, you need a spacer at the bottom. then you only need to compress the spring 2" and it rides a bit better. i made a small spacer for the top to fit in the gland nut since the mr2 strut top is not the same diameter as the ae86 strut. still stiff but im happy with it.

Megan front springs aren't linear. They're progressive, with dead coils. They're intended to be compressed a lot so they fit appropriately while using a standard length (non short stroke) shock. Your MR2 shocks are more of a short stroke shock, which is why you're having to compress them so much.

getting the strut tube spacer makes it even worse. Get a standard length shock.
